Ok, so I've been trying to decide on oil pan. And all I've found is a bunch of people arguing in threads from 5+ years ago. No one with any actual qualified experience that leads to a logical decision between the 2.

Tomei is stainless but doesn't have cooling fins and increases to 4.5qts
Greddy is aluminum with cooling fins and increases to 5qts.

I'm really trying to see if anyone has come up with any info to make a strong point for one or the other.

It's going on a 300whp blacktop with S14 oil pickup. Car sees lots of track time, drift events monthly, autoX a few times a year, drag racing regularly, and rural back roading weekly.

Guys with experience and info, what do you say? I have been leaning towards Tomei because I like the idea of having stainless threads for the drain plug and stainless construction.

1. A 300hp daily drifter with all the longevity bells & whistles you have does not 'need' cooling fins.

2. The main thing that I like about the Tomei is that not only is it stainless- It physically sits ABOVE the front crossmember so even in the event of bottoming out on these wonderful MO backroads, the member would have to completely cave in long before the pan ever got so much as even touched.

Don't get me wrong, at least your conundrum wasn't "ISIS or Godspeed oil pan lmao!"

Both are quality parts... But the welds on the Tomei are ridiculous, the metal is stronger; and it will never get hit if you bottom out...

I guess, I'm only a little bit worried about the Tomei, because I don't see many people with them, I see many more Greddy pans out there. Figure if the Tomei was logically better, there would be more of them...

They both sit above the crossmember, however cast aluminum is going to be structurally weaker, although lighter. If you aren't slammed it shouldn't matter what piece you go with really. I personally have a Greddy on mine and never had an issue. One thing I don't like about it is the threads can pull out on the oil drain(easily fixed with a Helicoil).

I'm not sure what the price points are between each one, but if you want something you do not want to worry about cracking from contact with whatever may be in the road, the Tomei is the better choice.

Moroso is another great sheet metal pan. Internally baffled with trap doors.

I have a tomei.

it sits up much higher, and it won't break if you were to crash your car or drive it up a curb.

if you're worried about oil temps, run an oil cooler like i am.

Since my car was slammed, my mentality came down to this. If I bottomed out the oil pan, I'll more than likely crack the Greddy one and I would more than likely noticed that its leaking. If I bottomed out the Tomei one and it pushed up on the sump like the OEM pan, I probably wouldnt know I'm starving the engine. I opted for the Greddy one and have run them on my last 2 SR'd S14 from 2005-2011.

I'm sorry, who are you to call me out and why? o.O? Income doesn't directly relate to parts on the car, or paying retail just for the hell of it.

Back on topic...

Considering they're both pretty comparable parts, and at that HP level the benefits of cooling fins won't matter, a cost difference is a pretty smart thing to factor in. ATM, they're close on FRSport. Maybe another vendor has one on sale.


Sheet metal pans are nice, except where taking any kind of hit is involved. Greddy pans are sold scraped up all the time. They can take a mild amount of abuse. I run the Tomei, but with a skid plate and not crazy lowered anyway. I wouldn't want to see it after a hit.

Yea, my car isn't slammed. Its a properly prepared car. And I'll be running a PBM skid plate either way.

Probably going to get Tomei, found one used at a good price, but going through hell trying to get seller to message me back lol. Dude is busy!
