ok guys, both of you have recently expressed dissatisfaction with your turbo setups. what have the problems been? it seems everyone thinks of turboing, but unless you do it, you really dont know the problems. Do you think you wouldve had these problems on a car that was turbo stock?
psi, i know youre selling your car, and i dont want to hurt that, but youve only had the turbo a short while and youre already dumping it (at a loss, i assume). what have the problems been? main question, if you had a stock car, would you go turbo again? |

Well, my problem is that my turbo was kinda borken when I got it so I replaced that. $3000 w/ fabrication.
Been through one Clutchmasters, and now one Centerforce Clutch, $1000 (I still have a ACT 6Puck that works fine but I dont have money to install it now. There are a bunch of small little things that if I had a little more money I could fix but there is no way possible. I have no other form of transpposrtation for the time and I have no more money and I must get my own house by the end of the year. So, this is leaving me with one option that noone is gonna want to hear. |

would u say that it would be better then to go w/ a stock turbo (sr20det) set up, rather than putting an aftermarket turbo kit on the ka like u did? this is basically meant for reliability issues.

Then in one year I will buy a Lexus IS300 <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> It will be a dope one too, its all planned out :biggrin: |

Sorry for the delay in answering, I just now saw this post. This may be long but bare with me.
Problem 1, ecu program is way too rich causing driveability problems, reason being I was the first in the country to have this program for 72 lb. injectors so there was not alot of R&D that went into it. Solution, get a new updated program from JW. Problem 1.1, 1.2 I dont have another car to drive while I send my ecu to Cali along with money I don't have. Problem 2, I still owe $950 to the guy who built my car. Problem 3, I got that $300 check from the IRS and was supposed to give it to the guy that built the motor for my debt but, Problem 4, my exhaust manifold cracked and I had to pay him $300 for disassembly and welding. Problem 5, While he had the manifold and turbo and everything else off to weld, he forgot to re-tap a stripped bolt hole in the manifold so I still had an exhaust leak. Problem 6, a freezeplug somehow fell out of my head causing all of my coolant to leak out ( pull head, or engine to get to it) and overheat. Problem 7, my best friend totalled my daily driver so when the 240 breaks I have no way to get to work. Problem 8, before I blew the motor I had to replace the clutch, I bought an ACT street clutch kit, it was fine at 10psi on the old setup, I am boosting 20psi now and it slips, I need to replace it and dont have the money. Problem 9, when I built the car I had a ton of disposable income, now that it is finished and I went way over budget, I am completely broke with no relief in sight. Problem 10, the exhaust manifold is cracked... again. Problem 11, the bung that was in my second 02 sensor hole, fell out on the way home tonight causing a huge exhaust leak. Do I think these things would have happened on an allready turbo car? Yes, and no. Anytime you take a car and double the original hp you are going to have problems. A factory exhaust manifold would not have cracked though, the revhard is a piece of shiite. And I wouldn't call it dumping it really, I figure if I sell it now while it is in perfect running order I can get my money back out of it, if I keep it for awhile and put some serious wear and tear on it, it may break a short while after I sell it and I dont want that to happen, if the guy who buys it from me now gets a year or so worth of utter enjoyment out of the car it wont be so bad then if it breaks. And if I get what I am asking I will not be losing money, I got the car for an absolute steal, allready turbo with the brakes, exhaust, suspension, wheels and tires, electronics, everything for $7000, I have spent an additional $6500 or so on the engine rebuild and all the new, bigger components. Would I buy another stock car and turbo again? Absolutely, if I had the means to build and MAINTAIN it. I love the shock value of doing that to cars.
