HID Quick Question
I just bought my RHD '91 S13 SR20DET and it came with the projector style headlights (JDM). I just want to know for me to upgrade my HIDs do I need to get the whole HID kit or just the new bulbs? I wanted to run 6 or 8k for the low and high beams and 3k for the inner fog lights. Plz help and here's a pic of the new car
and I apologize for perhaps asking a question that someone else probably already asked but I couldn't find the answer anywhere. I'm not new to cars or forums. Again I apologize Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you want to do it the right way, you need to do an HID retrofit. That means u need to open your headlights and replace the stock projectors with new ones. The stock projectors are designed for halogen bulbs. I can get into detail how halogen projectors are different than HID projectors, but won't. If you don't care, you will need bulbs, ballast, and relay. For retrofit, you need all that plus projectors.

Is there a site that you know of that I can get what I need ... I hate the fact that everytime I search for parts for it I gotta deal with 240sx parts and all that lol. It's never a straight answer while I'm looking for parts ANYWHERE. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

theretrofitsource.com
shoot them an email and see if they have a recommendation. I just put the mini h1 kit in my wrx, not sure if those projectors would fit in the silvia lights or not. I would just do lowbeams, it will get expensive if you want to do a retrofit on all 3. |

Ok sounds good but I'm guessing I can always upgrade the high beams later anyway ... Thanks for the site. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

all you need is to retrofit in low beam.. leave everything else as is.. you should also replace the front OEM glass covers as they are terrible and kill the output..
Your best bet is to get plastic covers and slap those on (paint the bezzels black).. I did this on mine, it will be 100% functional and vast improvement over OEM.. we shall see how its gonna look on the car.. ( I have not mounted them yet ).. my main concern is function rather than looks.. i have bricks currently but lighting sucks.. check the definite lighting thread and you will find what I'm talking about.. |

Glass headlights are so thick that they distort light output.. Doesn't matte that they won't fade they are shit design.. Clear plastic lenses are not restricting any output.. Keep em clean wax regularly and they will be fine.. If you don't want to do any of the above then throw a 35 dollar hid kit and move on.. It will still be much better than halogen bulbs but nothing like a retro..
