Pics of my 1st auto-x
I ran my car in my 1st autocross event last saturday and good. It was so much fun, I don't know why I didn't do this sooner. I placed 3rd out of 7 in the g stock class and am waiting for the overall results to be posted online. I don't know if that's anything to be proud of or not, but I didn't think it wasn't too shabby for my 1st time. I can't wait for the next event. Enjoy the pics.

yea, autox is really addicting. everyone i know that's done it once says they had a lot of fun and wanna get into it, but they always get lazy and don't come out anymore. i will say that they had you in the wrong class. your wheels should put you in sts, not gs.

Yeah, I agree with 019 about me being in the wrong class. I was looking through the classifications before the event and wasn't expecting to be put in a stock class, but oh well. I'm definately going to try and make it to the rest of the events this summer.

Congrats on the good finish! Looks like a fun course.
It looks like you have springs and bigger rims? If so, you should probably go to STS depending on your rim size. What mods do you have and we can help you get in the right class for next time.

that's a good point. i completely forgot about tire size. more than likely, they're bigger than 7.5" (from the looks of it), so dsp sounds more like a possible class. a list of mods would def help us helping you class your car, hehe.

Haha yeah I didn't get out to any of the events last year... I'm one of the ones 019 is talking about... seemed every weekend there was an event my car decided to need repair. This year will be different though, I promise, haha

For all of you that havn't been to one yet, get to one asap. Its a blast and you wont regret it. As for my mods, I really havn't done much to it.
-Espelir ASD springs with probably blown stock struts -5zigen fn01r-c's 17x7 +35 in front and 17x8 +35 rear -Yokohama es100s 215/45/17 in front and 225/45/17 on the rears -SPL ruca's (will be installed for the next event) And that's pretty much it for the mods that matter I think. The engine is a bone stock ka24de. So how competitive could I be in the differnet classes you guys have mentioned? Thanks for the help. |

w/o the ruca's, you could run in STX or DSP, although regionally, they might let you run STS. the thing that gets you is the 8" wheels in the back. sts only allows up to 7.5". STX would probably more suitable, since everyone would be running street tires. once you get your ruca's in tho, you jump all the way up to SM and, unless the other drivers suck, you'll prolly end up at the bottom of the class, heh. but honestly, i don't think it matters much right now. just have fun and learn how to drive your car to the limit. and be sure to ask if they can let you run in STS. i think that's usually the most fair class for all beginners
sorry if it sounds like i'm throwing all these class names at you. here's a little breakdown: STS - basically a good class where you can run street tires only STX - same as STS, just with higher hp cars and lsd's DSP - step above the ST classes with more mods allowed and r comps SM - step above DSP. mostly high hp cars bill, you need to come back early for the radford autox! that's usually the most fun since a lot more ppl you'd know go, since it's the closest to school, heh. |

Last week I won an auction on ebay for a full set of 15x7 zero offset enkei meshies. Since the wheels I have on there now are an issue, what would happen with the classification if I ran the mesh wheels?

With the 15x7's, you can run in STS. As long as you don't install the RUCA's.
240s are usually most competitive in STS or DSP, but only if you build the car to the limits. Once you throw race tires on their, those springs/struts are going to become a problem with bottoming out.

I hear ya on that . Seems with auto x I take two steps forward then three steps back/forget how to drive. I think it comes from how spread out I do them. Plus I get frustrated easy that's happens when not having fun. That's why seem to be getting better faster/all time at drifting cause I have more fun. Now cars more setup for that though will never stop auto x cause teaches me more and helps In more aspects. Hope to get into road racing Ukan when you going to VIR again ? Hell just need to ride along with you Ukan you the man

jmauld has pretty much answered all the questions, but i just wanna add a little bit to it. yes, the 15x7's will put you in STS as long as you don't put anything wider than a 225 on them and you don't put your ruca's on either.
i thought you could add a vlsd from a 240 in your own and keep it in stock cuz it allowed back/updating. i know STS doesn't allow back/updating tho, so you wouldn't be allowed to do that there. otherwise any lsd (helical or clutch) will put you in STX. if you're a complete beginner you'll just be in Novice for a few events. adrian, i was the same way when i started autoxing. only a few events in the first year, then i got off my ass and went to all the brr events. 1 event a month was good but didn't improve enough. now i'm at the point where i'm doing multiple events a month and i definitely can see the results. |
