ka24de head help people
scenario:
i bought a '98 and recently blew head gasket due to over heating, [ka24de automatic/all stock] i take it to the shop, he tells me that the machine shop cant resurface it because it is warped so bad, is that BS? i dont think i over heated it that much...(pulled over right away) Anyways couple questions i have; how much is a new/used cylinder head, (he charging me $500) i seen some for much cheaper. is it possible to warp a head so bad that it cannot be resurfaced? anyone got a head for sale? haha jk wtf do i tell this guy, respectfully though.. help me out on this guy not BSing me i seems nice...but u never know now also ive never really raced the engine, redlined a couple times [~10 times a month] but nothing extreme or hard core Last edited by Automatic; 07-21-2015 at 08:02 PM.. |

it is possible, just ask him to show you the head, and have him show you how bad it's warped...in a nice way.

I wouldn't call BS just yet. Aluminum heads can easily warp past the point of repair, they can also see enough heat that a proper resurfacing takes too much material off, making it useless. I bought a longblock from a guy that was 'rebuilt' with a resurfaced head, the timing cover and distributor wouldn't line up due to the deck height being too short, it was shaved that much. I would doublecheck with him nicely, and maybe get a second opinion if he's cool with it.
I actually have two cylinder heads for sale if you're interested, both are S14s.

i was told the same thing when i blew my head gasket. If its that bad like projectrdm said the dizzy and tiing cover wont line up and you'll be having trubole putting your distributor back in. My cure for this was to cut the head gasket on the front cover and use rtv to seal it. I barely got away though. Worked great so far and put on 40k miles, no leaks, compression loss, over heating, funny timing or anything.
just find a machine shop to shave it till its straight and put it on, whats the worst that can happen? bent valves and you were gonna need another head anyways. |

The worst that can happen? Too much compression which causes detonation blasting a whole in the piston. Just a thought.
