Alex, your smile will be missed. I never saw him at a meet where he wasn't making everyone around him laugh. RIP, man, I'm so sorry for him and his family, as well as the others...

i'd like to quote something from my management professor that has stuck in my head this year: "there are no good or bad decisions, only positive or negative consequences to our actions."
we'd all like to think that if it were us, we wouldn't have put put ourselves in that position, but that is a lie. it is just a shame that these things happen in, but for those of you who knew him, remember the man as he lived, not as he died. RIP and my condolences to the family and friends of those who died. |

Friend just sent me this, he knew one of the people who died.
I just literally crashed my bike on Saturday, but walked away unscathed, and you know WHY? Because I was at a track. I crashed on turn 11 at thunderhill. I turned in too early and overcooked it, went wide and ended up on my ass. There were no trees at the track, just lots and lots of runoff, aka just dirt and grass, and I crashed it on completely smooth pavement. Please people take it to the track. For those of you who say you are young etc, don't buy into that Bull, save your money and work at it. I'm only 19 myself and pay my way through it all, its a lot slower but I also learn a lot from the instructors they provide and from all the more experienced people. |

Alex/DirtyOldMan (left), Me(far right) Rip bro... He was a very good friend of mine, i'm still shocked that the fact the he is gone so suddenly... Late nights at Sushi Unlimited, Mels dinner specials, 2nd Saturday in downtown, Sunsplash... etc, those were good times. I felt hella old kickin it with you, I still remember you calling me the real dirty old man. I guess I'll get to see you one last time homie. The girl who died was only 16, Alex was only 20. Didn't even get to go to a bar legally with him yet... |

I wonder if the authorities are going to press charges against the driver with murder.

i swear it seems like recently in alot of fatal speeding crashes in and around Sac the driver usually is the survivor.
crazy stuff, life is wayyy too short. R.I.P. to some sactown locals.

Maybe I'm just being a dick, or maybe Zilvia got soft.
I feel living with the guilt seriously isn't enough. This guy needs a constant reminder of how he single-handedly ended 3 lives all for the sake of the thrill. Never met the others, but RIP. Funny how if NO ONE knew those in teh accident, everyone would be flaming to shit. Why is this time different? |

I don't know about you but when my friends start driving crazy and I'm not in the mood I tell them to slow the fuck down and take it easy. Being hostile if necessary.

Crash kills 3 on notorious El Dorado County road
ShareThis Buzz up! By Hudson Sangree and Stephen Magagnini [email protected] Published: Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 - 12:00 am | Page 1A The driver of a car that slammed into a tree Sunday, killing two high school students and a third passenger on a notoriously dangerous El Dorado County Road, may face vehicular manslaughter charges, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. The passengers who died in the 12:40 a.m. single-car collision on Salmon Falls Road were Nan Hee Pak, 16, a sophomore at Rocklin High School; Elijah John Shaw, 18, a senior at Folsom High School; and Alex Weast, 20, CHP Sgt. Todd Brown said. Parents described Pak and Shaw as upbeat teenagers who aspired to college and professional careers. Rocklin High School principal Michael Garrison said he believed Weast was a former student. The driver, Mark Barrera, 20, of Rocklin, was the only survivor. He was treated at Sutter Roseville Medical Center and released, Brown said. With the investigation still under way, excessive speed was being examined as a likely cause, the CHP sergeant said. Alcohol was not thought to be a factor, he said. Salmon Falls Road, which snakes from El Dorado Hills to Highway 49 in rural Pilot Hill, has been the scene of a number of deadly motorcycle and car collisions over the past two decades. Early Sunday morning, the silver 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX, owned by Shaw and driven by Barrera, was heading into a downhill turn south of Pond View Road, when Barrera lost control and the car struck a large oak tree, Brown said. The car, he said, was "absolutely obliterated." Pak and Weast, who were sitting in the back seat, died at the scene, said Sgt. James Byers, with the El Dorado County sheriff's and coroner's offices. Shaw was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Byers said. Two of the three victims had been ejected from the car, he said. Pak was wearing a seat belt, Byers said. Autopsies are expected today, he said. Investigators were forced to identify the victims through fingerprints because they carried no identification or cell phones, he said. Elijah Shaw's mother, Eva Shaw, said her son was a good student who dreamed of becoming a criminal defense lawyer. "He was always happy, always a jokester," she said. "You couldn't find a more well-rounded kid, athlete, bodybuilder. He liked everything from classical music to opera to techno to rap." She said the car was "his baby" and she found it hard to believe he would let anyone else drive it. Elijah, who everyone knew as "EJ," had gotten off work at the Nautica store in the Folsom Premium Outlets about 5 p.m. Saturday, she said. "He just came home, had dinner, said he was going out with a couple of friends for a little bit," she said. "He told me, 'I love you, Mom. I'll be back later.' " She said she didn't know the others involved in the accident. Il Won Pak said his daughter, Nan Hee, a 16-year-old sophomore at Rocklin High School, loved to draw Japanese animé and wanted to become a doctor. Pak said his daughter told her mother she was walking to meet friends, hang out and watch a movie. "She said she was coming home at midnight, but she never came," he said. "When we got the call about 4 a.m., I could not believe it." Pak, a Korean immigrant, said his daughter was born in Maryland. "She was a very normal person," he said. "She had a lot of friends. She wanted to go to UC San Diego." On Salmon Falls Road, residents said the crash was the latest in a long string of accidents that have left them wary and frustrated. Margot Farrelly, who lives near the spot where the accident occurred, said the oak tree in Sunday's accident has been hit at least once before. Young men on racing motorcycles drive the twisting road at high speeds, she said. Every so often, one of them crashes or dies, she said. "We risk our lives getting in and out of our driveways," she said. Homemade signs that urge drivers to slow down have done little good, she said. Nor have repeated complaints to public officials. The CHP's Brown said officers are well aware of the problem and regularly conduct "focused enforcement" on the road. |

so why is the fucktard driver any different from anyone else who thought it was ok to put his friends lives under his own judgement and why is it different from any other idiot passengers who didnt decide "fuck this im getting out of this car" or "Hey MOTHER FUCKER SLOW THE FUCK DOWN" my honest opinion, everyone else in that car must have thought he was some smooth driver or some shit and fed fuel to the fire to let him drive hard... but guess what...we will never know the full story now, will we?...theres 4 sides to this story, sadly we only get to hear one... I blame the driver for being stupid and driving the way he did... i blame the passengers for not knowing the value of there own lives... there i said it...

I think it would be a little rude and crass to come on this thread saying the same, "keep it on the track" arguments. We all know it, its been stated already. We as Zilvians are keeping it respectful for friends and family. Its nice to see people saying their last respects to a member of Zilvia that passed this weekend. |

damn. It's crazy to think about, when you hear shit like this you're brain begins to wrack about where you've seen these people last. Alex, you will be missed. And that girl, sixteen years old. holy shit, there's so much life left, for ALL of them. this really is a sad story, let's hope it makes some people around sac realize they need to slow it down when it comes to those mountain roads up 49.

thats sad, whyd the kid let this guy drive his car? imma guess they thought he had more "driving experience" and decided to let him drive. its a shame we will never know. This shit happens alot though, but this no where near the lose from drunk drivers, where other peoples actions take out innocent people. =(

This is a very sad story...
But I have to ask doesn't anybody else find it odd that a 16 year old girl is hanging out with two 20 somethings and an 18 year old? Well after midnight on top of that?

back to the subject, its a sad one and a sad reminder that we all need to pay attention and slow down on back roads. to the driver and friends of the victims, make sure to use everything at your disposal to cope with this sad situation, time doesn't heal wounds as fast as reaching out to loved ones for love and support.

I never even push my car hard with passengers. I just would not be able to live with myself if I was responsible for anything I had power to avoid. May the victims rest in peace, and a hard lesson learned for the driver.
