SR20 has been sitting, time for a fluid change. Assistance appreciated
Hello everyone, as the title states, I'll be changing most of the fluids in the car here shortly and was curious as to what was recommended (yes I've searched to little avail). The car has a SR20DET in it, stock differential, etc. With that being said, what fluids would be suggested for: oil, transmission, differential, and coolant.
I also searched for some DIY write ups for reference and couldn't find any..so if there are some, I'd love to read over them. Thanks! |

If you know the previous owner, it may not hurt to ask them what they may or may not have changed. If you're 'fresh' in that aspect, at a minimum I'd change the oil, flush the the coolant, bleed the brakes. Then I'd look into changing the transmission and differential oil if you think it's needed. 9/10 it's probably fine, but that's on you and your budget.

The only reason I'm thinking the transmission fluid needs to be changed is because if I'm driving "spirited" and shift from 3rd to 4th, there's a slight, chunky grind-ish feeling in the shifter..it doesn't seem to effect anything, but I figured I'd change the tranny fluid to be safe. |

I'd bleed the clutch system and change the fluid in that part of it all, before dropping the trans oil.
To me, the stuff to run: Engine Oil: Rotella Synthetic T6 5w40 Trans Oil: Quality GL4 Brake Fluid: Quality Dot 3 (I use ATE Blue, but it's a track car) Clutch Fluid: same as above Diff Fluid: OEM spec Fluid. If you have a diff, be sure to add fiction modifier. If VLSD run FSM suggestions Power Steering: ATF Dexcron 3 Coolant: AntiFreeze, or Distilled Water, some rust inhibitor (like water water) etc etc

When i first did my sr swap my shop recommended I use regular oil first then switch to sythentic after a few hundred miles or so. I had no idea how long my motor was sitting for.. This was over 6000 miles ago and already on 3rd sythentic oil change. I used the power enterprise filter for the first change then switched back to oem oil filter just for piece of mind. I'd also change fuel filter!
