what got you interested in cars?
I have to write a paper in my composition class and if some of you guys/girls can take a sec to answer some questions thank you in advance.
Did you grow up tinkering with lawnmowers, snowblowers and the such? What got you interested in automobiles? How has racing influenced the person you have become? Has racing/building cars influenced your career choice? What automotive careers have you had? If you currently race(drag, drift, auto x) did you get your start somewhere else earlier in your life? If you would like to add anything to it go ahead. Thank you. If you could leave your first name with the post so i can properly cite the info i would appreciate it. |

i have searched and can't find anything on the subject. I was just looking for a couple of peoples insight on my particular paper. It is a college course i am taking, not just a random question.

My old man was an engine tech in the RCAF, and at the same age was having a lot more fun with cars and technology!
In the 70's he even worked at at Datsun Garage! Air force days The 70's at Datsun Import Model from the 70s, lol RIP Dad.

I don't know how I got into cars but, I have loved cars since I was about 5 years old. I would always see a car I liked on the streets and I would go home and draw it and I guess my passion just grew from there.

A friend of mine had a 92 civic ex he had wheels, exhaust, lowered and more, so i went and bought 95 civic ex. His was beat to shit mine was mint we spent days fixing the dents and smothed out and bought a sweet bodykit for it.
Honestly we thought f&f was legit lmao then came reality, i found a super street and laid eyes on rwd power plants and what was the "real" way too mod cars. From there civics were sold z32's, 240sx's, volvo .. yes a volvo 740turbo sedan straightpipe+more and my current Rb swapped cressida. . The big thing it was for me is just having fun and keeping busy with friends and constantly trying to do something different than others. |

I think a good point of view for a paper would be how some view cars as a strictly point a to b and how others feel it is an extension of who they are.
my masters is in organizational leadership and i was trying to justify my thesis on the affect society has when modifying their cars. trends, feeling accepted, etc. |

This was hilarious. I wish I could somehow explain to my dad how I feel about cars because he thinks cars are just "wires and tires." How do you not develop a bond to your car?

my friends did, to be honest. at first, i thought they were just going through a lame ass fad, you know? they wanted some ricey body kits and ugly wheels and that was pretty much it. but then a (now) very dear friend of mine who was immersed in hotrod culture and general repair from an early age started teaching me about the intricacy and endless on-the-fly repairs and hacks (so to speak) you can do to pretty much any combustion engine. as the years went by, that knowledge got me out of a few crappy stranded situations, allowed me to help out friends and family and make some money on the side. beside that, the knowledge base you acquire in this hobby is extremely versatile and anything i can do to make my life and the lives of my friends and family easier is ok by me.

I pretty much came out of my mom's vagina with a hot wheels.
In all seriousness, I have always loved cars. I do not remember a time in my life when cars where not on my mind. |

What I don't understand is how you couldn't have just faked your homework assignment. Its not hard to come up with some ideas, make up some fake names and such. Unless you are in need of references... but that is usually at the University level.
...and if this is a University project, you are studying the wrong material.

it is a cultural paper for a college class. I am writing on how certain things in my childhood influenced my passion for racing and how it had an affected my decision to become an automotive tech and why i am pursuing my bachelors in auto engineering.
Yes i did need quoted material and i am having a hard time finding what will flow with my theme. |

I liked cars since as long as i can remember. Maybe since kindergarden. But my dad always had his old school cars and he would never keep one he would always sell and buy sell and buy. Over the years it became a passion and i wanted to be more a part of it. So in high school i wanted to learn auto body and some mechanical work also. Now i restore cars that my dad has in his backyard so he can sell them. Eventually i will want to work for a Auto body shop preferably to restore classics if God lets me. Or start my own shop which is my dream.

The fact i didnt have to kick, push, coast around on my skateboard. But they never told me its easier to fix trucks on a skateboard than the mechanical work.
