Installing new (WS) lower harness, Confused by Alternator connector
Yea this seems like such an easy thing, but just like everything else I do with my car it's a mystery to solve. I am swapping a redtop into my s14 and I bought the Wiring Specialties lower harness. I went to connect the alternator and as you might have guessed, the main (positive) connector doesn't fit!
Here is the connector on the harness As you can see, this is my alternator. No worky! I have noticed that casing around the post seems a bit busted up. Not sure if that is playing a part. It seems like the casing is just too small to possibly allow those prongs to fit inside. I haven't tried turning that hex that is visible, I don't imagine that is the problem, or am I really that dumb? Here is the s13 lower harness that came with the engine. As you can see the connector is much different. Should I just modify the new harness and remove those prongs and slap it on? or am I missing something here? |

For anyone searching in the future, I chopped off the prongs with a grinder and it seems to work. I have to assume my alternator is not stock, or the harness comes with a connector for a different model/year. Anyway I think it should work. No pictures, just imagine chopping the two prongs off. Pretty simple! |

Shave off the prongs or cut off the casing around the post. It's probably the alternator you got is a little different from what that connector was intended to attach to. Just a minor cutting will get it on

get the dremel out shave those prongs off, hook it up, back it out of the parking spot, put it in first with the clutch in, rev up it up, drop the clutch, hammer the gas to make sure it works. last few steps not needed, but yeah just shave the prongs off. i have my buddies rb25 coupe running off a ws lower sr harness and a ws rb engine harness.

It's 2015 people, Jesus jumpin' jacks! Shit is different than what it was back in the '90s.
Flip the thing over...are you fuckin' stupid!?!?! Then the prongs will be in the way of the nut (&/or the socket/wrench) that the OP will be using to tighten down the connector.
