first launches, never been to the strip before.
tonight i ran the 1/4 for the first tim e in my life, in my 240 i just finished a couple weeks ago. heres info about the car
SR20, SC61 t3t4 turbo, z32 MAF, stock injectors, SAFC set to almost richest settings, 10 pounds, greddy intake mani, FMIC, 3" turbo back, VLSD, 205 all weather tires. full boost at around 4k. heres the best pass.... r/t - 1.154 60' - 2.150 330 - 6.144 1.8 - 9.385 MPH - 76.98 1000 - 12.059 1/4 - 14.330 MPH - 99.26 on this pass i launched at like 4500 and shifted like a madman. best 60' of the night. all others were like 2.4-2.6 . the best MPH i had was 101. like i said this was my first time ever racing at the track, and ever realy launching the car. how much can a 2.1 60 be improved on street tires? i need tuned damnit. LMK what you think!

have you tried launching at a lower rpm?? I run with bf goodrich t/a drag radials and launch at 3-4k after give'n them a nice warm-up. Judging by your mph you could be running mid-high 13's if you drop your 60' to under 2.0 . Earlier this past summer i was running crappy ventus tires w/open diff and pulled 2.1 - 2.5 60ft times, so you technically could/should do better with more practice.

i thought a 2.1 was prety good. i know there is room for improvement. i need traction and a good tune. so you think i should be able to get my 60' times down a couple tenths?
kinda sucks im runing a huge ass turbo running low 14s and your on stock running 12s. i guess your a good driver and have radials though.

Lol, been there before too man.... money will come and the car will get better, give it some time. Seems a little slow for the mods. My SR was doing mid 13's and I had the stock T25, GReddy Type-R BOV, Spearco FMIC, 6-8lbs of boost. It would go up and spike 8 and then fall back down to 6. GReddy TR Power Evolution II Exhaust 3 1/4 off the turbo.

Yeah dude, your quarter should be faster than what you ran.. my buddy ran a 14.7 with shit tires, open diff & stock SR (he had front pipe/exhaust of course).
He ran a 14.3 on the next try @ 10psi but he spun through the first 3 gears or so :P |

that's cool, a lot of people HAVE done stuff like that though. seriously though, if you get some good rubber under the car you'll be golden. it doesn't take a lot to make a 2700lb car scoot a 12-13.

ha i am having the same problem right now, but i fixed it when i ordered the dt-05r's the other day. but once you get some more tire under there you should be in the 13's. Just save and they will come.

get out there and practice your launches, even with those tires you should be able to launch decently if you find the right rpm. Are you spinning through first gear when you launch at 4500?

thanks man. it felt good to get the 13.9. then a couple runs after that i ran a 14 flat. its just hard to get off the line good. i tried going from like 3000 and that definatly was not working. it wouldnt spin as much, but then it took forever to pick up ang get moving. i had much better results dumping it at 4k, and spining until it hooked. id like to see what this could do with radials or slicks. how much inprovement do you think it would make? .5, 1 sec?

Lounch
The most important part of the strip is the lounch. I have a stock SR in an S13 with a 6 puck, fidanza lfywheel, turboback, straigt pipe and a 3" downpipe and an HKS BOV with stock wheels and Azenis tires with open LSD and ran a 14.00. Rev the motor to about 6K and hold it. When the light turns green eaze the clutch so that the tires grip but dont slip, ass soon as you feel tull traction, rev upto 7.5 K and shift. That was the way i got a 14 flat with a stock SR

i ran 14.33 with only 2 launches at the track with the sr20...I got there kinda late so they only let me run 2 times. i know i could get better times. it was also the first day launching with spec stage 3 and fidanza flywheel. and i run full 3" exhaust, t25 running stock boost with open diff. on street tires. i know i have much impovement...track days are few and far between around these parts

Hopefully if I get my FMIC in and learn how to launch better I should be near 14.00 give or take.

well i had stock redtop with exhaust and i ran this with bad clutch
r/t .814 60' 2.635 14.666 99 mph so im sure anyone with a good launch can run a better time than that. and i bogged because i didnt want to spin the tires. anywayz my point is now i can run a low 13 with the new mods...and thats how you work yourself up. figure out what you dont like about your car and fix it. and improve your driving. and in our car the launch is the most important part. ive had perfect launches in street races but never at the track.

So what's the secret? besides practice....
I've tried launching at 2500, 3000, 3500 rpm feathering the clutch and I ended up burning the clutch (?). The clutch seemed to slip everytime I shifted after the launch. Last time I tried dumping at 2500, 2800, 3000ish and the car seem to bog a little and then take off. So what I'm thinking is maybe dumping at 3200-3500 rpm. I think letting off slowly would yeild a better 60' but not if it's going to make the clutch slip. What do you think? Also, do you guys let off the gas when you shift? I always have but some people don't. I dunno.

Ive yet to get any practice in launching a rwd car, so i havent launched my 240 yet, but keeping your car in its powerband while slipping the clutch produces alot better results than just "dumping" it in any car. This is best because you can maintain your powerband at all points and control exactly how much traction you have, it all depends on how good a driver you are. If your clutch slips between shifts then maybe its not holding your power/time for a new one/ or you glazed it somehow. Have you tried playing with your tire pressures? if wheelspin is an issue you can try dropping the pressures a few lbs in the back. This will get you better launches and hurt your mph. Try mastering that then slowly bring the tire pressure back up to a decent level for those particular tires and keeping it...

You need tuning more than anything. An [email protected] should be trapping quite a bit higher than 100mph. I ran a [email protected] on a [email protected] with similar 60' (2.1ish). Although, this was on a pretty agressive ROM tune that I made.
