Vertical hood mod

Is there a write-up anywhere on how to do this? I tried googling 'vertical hood,' but only inappropriate pictures came up.

Lately I have been seeing this on quite a few S-chassis. Apparently people mod the stock hinges, however when done that way, it seems that the hood leans back and rests against the windshield, which I do not really want.

On the silver Koguchi car above it looks as if some kind of aftermarket hinges might be used, since the hood is sitting straight up, even leaning forward slightly. I was told it is possible to buy such hinges, however I have not been able to find any.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

That's an interesting idea.

Hondas have them stock.

Good luck with your search. Post up what you find.

Dont OEM hinges open up that much? Just the corners of the hood wont allow it to go that far?

Shit. My phone just broke and I have pictures of how to do it on there.

My car has this done. Basically you need to grind one tiny part off of the hinges.

Fuck it. I'll go borrow a camera and go out and take pics right now.

Just for you.

No.

Well they would, but there are little tab things that stop it.

My daily's stock hood hinge.

Modified hinge. Takes like 3 minutes.

Done.

Our volvo 850 has that. Opens like a regular hood, but when you pull a lever on the latches, it does ^^^. Yep.

I've been wanting to do this as well... I'll take a Dremel to my hinge tomorrow night and see what happens.

The only reason I did this is so I don't have to take my hood off to pull the engine.

KA-T's seem like they always need to come back out. HAHAHA.

The windshield.

Haha.

Yes, I expect problems in the future. I need to figure out a cool honda style hood prop, and something to make it eventually stop. But that won't be too hard.

I did the same thing just ground out the stops. You can grind out as much as you want so it will stop when you want it to. Instead of cutting that tab off if you stick a cut off wheel between the hinge and just grind out the stop on each side till its where you want it.

I'll be going to the junkyard tomorrow and get some spare hinges to do this on.

well i'll be goddamned.

so what's actually stopping the hood? it looks like the edge of the hood hits the glass? a couple pieces of that trim guard stuff people put on their doors would prevent chipping. i'm going to do this f'sho.

edit: [email protected] "vertical hood" google results.

Bro yeah bro. You don't even need a hood prop, mine stays up by itself even when there's heavy wind.

Wow, this beats the hell out of taking the hood off.
Snapped the bolts off twice that mount the hood to the chassis, and damn do 20 year old bolts not want to move!
