how can you tell which transmission you have in your car??
hey guys, i picked up this s14 that was swapped to 5 speed and i dont know anything about it. i just got the 5spd ecu for it and installed it and now if have the code p0335 coming up for the crank sensor.
how do i know what kind of tranny i have? s13 s14 or sr20. what r the differences i dont think i have the hole for the crank sensor at the top of the bellhousing and i have a bunch of cut wires under my car all help will be greatly appreciated. and yes, i have checked all over google and the forums and i still cant find exactly what im looking for. and also, if someone can send me a how to drill a hole on the bell housing for the crank sensor, that would be really great too. thank you. |

The transmission itself is pretty much exactly the same from S13 to S14, KA to SR, only the bell housing changes. Check to see if you have a crank angle sensor on top of your transmission bellhousing.
If you have one there it could be bad or just unplugged. If you don't have one and don't have this hole. If you don't have that hole you will need to go bet a S14 KA bell housing, probably a tall order but not completely unobtainable. Your other option is to drill the holes in the right spot, which the above picture shows. Also in the future we have this cool feature, its called search, you would have found your answers 10 fold by searching for Crank Angle Sensor. It and almost every issue you will have has already been covered on this forum.

Well since the thread is already started I'll go ahead and ask this question. How can you tell which years your tranny is? I'm looking at buying a rebuild kit for my transmission from this website: Nissian 4 and 5 speed FS5W71 Manual transmission Rebuild kit parts | FS5W71C overhaul kits - Drivetrain.com
Which has different prices for the 88-93 and 93-97 and then different pricES for the 93-97. Anyone know? Here is the picture that may explain a little better.

i'm pretty sure the acronyms at after BK133 mean that they come with different things. if i were you i'd just call that place and ask the questions to them. they'll be able to answer your questions alot better and be able to give you more advise on which will be best for you and you're application. also provide your vin on the car and also try and find the data plate on the tranny and that stuff will help with their timeliness.

The one above your VSS is Neutral.
-Middle is Overdrive/5th gear. -Forward is Reverse. I can't make out the rest as it looks like a hacked auto harness. Look straight down from the Head on the engine behind the firewall. You should be able to see the flat top of the transmission. If it is 8"x1" of smooth metal you don't have it. You should see a black sensor with an aluminum shield on it. Then a jumper harness that goes down to the harness.

Your going to need to pull the transmission to drill that hole.
It kinda looks like your lower harness was never even hooked up. They did the half ass swap route. Not all of these plugs are needed. And the plug above your speed sensor should be for your speed sensor. I suggest for your own benefit you complete the wiring side of the swap. Here is a good resource. S14 5-speed Transmission Swap - Electrical Connections

The OD or 5th gear sensor isn't needed. Only thing I bothered with were the reverse lights.
