socal Grip/track events group.
Alrite i hope this is the best place for it even though you can consider it regional/technical
Since theres starting to be a lot more s-chassis doing grip events in socal this thread is here to discuss experiences insights and technical info about grip events we will be doing. If you guys can pm me info on your car setup and pictures ill post them on this first thread spot so we can get a good idea of who is who running what. maybe as the this thread progresses we can actually start setting up a chart to track our progress. |

I think it would be pretty good to list setups that we were running at specific events as to be able to pick a part settings and results from that event.

Alright. Shall we all start by posting our previous results from previous track events as a form of standard?
Or, has there already been a thread for something like that? |

One of the first cars you may consider putting up there is Jason Rhode's - STS 240sx AutoX National Champ 2006. I believe he shared his setup & there was a link to the article in Grassroot Motosports magazine, but I can no longer find it.
AutoX setup, but a lot of it carries over into road racing setup. I'd share my setup, but that would mean sharing info w/ the enemy!!! Really though, my car changes almost every event, still waiting for it to settle down, haha.

400whp 330 Ft lbs on DynoDynamis on 91 octane
I am not going to list all the engine mods. Car weighs about 2550 lbs without me 4.3 JDM VLSD Ground Control 7mm front, 5 rear Considering Tein Flex (8f/6r) KYB AGX All the way around, 4 front (max stiff), 7 rear (7 out of 8 stiff) 17x8 4x114 (soon to change rear wheel to 17x9) RT615 235 40 17 front RT615 255 40 17 rear stock front sway (soon to be aftermarket) Removed oem rear sway bar blown subframe bushings haha (soon to be solid) worn out engine mounts C-Tune Front and Rear Strut Braces Tein Camber Plates in front Adjustable RUCA rear Last Sunday was my first track day/event ever with the car besides a gymkhana day and one auto-x, so I am just finding some weak points and getting a hang of maneuvering that much power around a technical course. Thats about all I can think of. aside from the things In red I will aslo be purchasing a Helical Diff of some sort and a autopower race 4 point and a better harness hopefully before Feb STUSA event The car also has a Q45 TB and Lightened Flywheel which greatly helped throttle response with the big gt3076R turbo.

Sam - Glad to see you upgraded your tires!! New seat and tires... I'm going to try and keep up with you and record those fireballs you shoot out, LOL.
Chris - Dude!! I don't know if it was the heat or what.. but, seriously your exhaust got me! I was whipping my head everywhere looking for that damn Subaru in my blindspot, hahahaa. Steveshadows - I've heard good things about you and your car from Nit and Daryl. I'm sure you had a good ride in both of there cars, they're both excellent drivers! Hope to meet you soon at the next track event. Nit - Clean S13 as always, loud as hell, but clean.. hahaha.. Make sure to give me a ride next time and show me how much you've improved. I'll call you up to square things away with the diff when I get back from Japan. Hope to meet more of you at the track! |

Hello IMOP Big willow is a high speed affair so you need good high speed balance the course is all 4th-5th gear you go down to third like 2 times only. Turn 8 & 9 have a big pucker factor that will make or break your lap time. If you have high levles of understeer it will eat your tires for lunch.
BUTTN is a much more technical track there is alot to be said for button, have a look at the track maps you have low 2nd gear all the way to constant radius 4th gear bend to a blind change of direction hill, that leads to a hairpin(formula mazda. You also have esses. So button has a bit of everything. PM me if you want a course break down I have course notes for all so-cal tracks(incl-Laguna & infinieon also thunder hill) PEACE!!!!

Yeah... Nittin is KTS. It was very nice and firm, but I was wondering what dampening he had it set at. If it was full soft, it was too firm.

They are the same... I went with KTS because I support SPL and their awesome customer service...
I like the KTS and don't know enough about suspension to know to switch to 2 way adjustable coilovers yet... When I do they will be KW Variant 3s... I'm kinda considering getting them in the near future... I run the dampening at 10 front and 8 rear... They are 15 way adjustable... The instructor said that the suspension setup was good but he thought the spring rate was too high... I told him that the car is 500 pounds lighter and agreed that was why... He said to be careful hitting the burms because he said the car might hop and change direction... Through the esses at full throttle isn't a problem... Going through Riverside I reach 115MPH before braking for Lost Hill which is just as fast as Daryl's S2000... It's good suspension to learn on and a huge jump from shocks and springs...

With that much power and wheel to wheel competition in the near future...niether. We switched from KTS with 10/8kg combo to a Tein Mono Flex 12/9 kg. I'm not recommending the Mono Flex's because we're sponsored by Tein but they actually are a very good setup imo. They also gave us the option of custom valving.
