The beginning of this month the car went back to paint to have the different shades fixed. I got it back Friday 8/9/13, And started taking bites out of my blue elephant. I put the Quarter windows in, installed all weather stripping, rubber stopper, locks, handles, fuel door, Tail lights, wiper sprayers, mirrors, Stripped old window tint, Plastic dipped a lot of exterior trim parts + mirrors, windshield wiper system, Plasti Dipped strut tower bars plus installed them, And I am sure there are more things I am forgetting. I am waiting on the extreme bulk pack of Dynamat to come in to put down for sound deadening inside. Then all the wiring can be tied down to it's permanent spot, and the plastics can go in. I also need to fix the rear bumper add on, should be picking up the hardware for it tomorrow. This how she looked before I put her up tonight.

Ky S13.5 Ground up build
Looking great man. Hopefully I can outsource a real front end soon. Get some coils and a turbo and that bad boy. Also I saw your grill creation. Maybe we could meet up sometime? I opened up my chuki bumper a lot and made air ducting. But the very front is flimsy and the intercooler is exposed. A grill in the front could stabilize the front duct. I tried making something but nothing looked ok to me. I was wondering if I could get some insight from a fellow fabricator?

More progress has been done, it is coming together a little bit at a time. I wanted to go black with all of the interior with no charcoal or dark gray fabric. Ritt dye is all but useless for car interior. After a some online research, Duplicolor fabric and vinyl paint is what was decided to take every thing black.
Since most of the factory sound deading was removed when I bought it I installed some Dynamat to lessen the heat and sound. The Cargo area still needs to be covered but more dynamat needs to be purchased to cover it. Above you can see the car audio wires ran. Plan on putting in some quality sound.

Thank you.
I really need to take some updated pictures. I have all of the interior in other than the seats, and trunk carpet. I still need to frame up a back seat delete. I want to make the lower section an amp rack, and the upper section a 6x9 mounting section. Then 3/4 of the coilovers and 300ZX Brakes installed. Looks like I may end up needing a new/remain brake master cylinder. Also need raise my rear end coils to clear the new speed bumps on my street. plenty more to do after all this, but I am aiming to get this stuff done sunday(today), except the Brake master cylinder.

I prefer the older kits. I am an old school early Y2K ricer, F&F 1 type of guy, living my life 1 quarter mile at a time. I am not sure if you are putting my work down tho. But if you are, i want to give you perspective. I have been working on all this for a long time, on a very small budget. yes my kit I have had parts of for 6+ years. Along with a lot of other parts. This car has always been back seat to my family. I have a disabled wife, 2 boys(one inspired by this ride to be a gear head) and raising my niece. Buying a house this year, and life in general. I can't and won't keep up with the car fashions. I am not a fan of D-magic type kits, hellaflush wheel set ups, nor do I have disposable cash or a daddy's shop to work out of. I will build it the way I want it. I am building it for me, but I want to show what I am doing with every one who loves the S-chassis's. If you don't like my flavor of blue rice stick with your's and out of my build thread.

No, no not putting your work down in any way... You've done everything nice. Just some of the parts made me lol. Its your car though, so if it makes you happy thats all that matters.
assuming you were looking at my build thread, d-magic is a sticker produce company, and I work out of my garage, not my dads shop. Thanks though. |

Ok all good, kinda hard to read people at times on post. I like what I am doing, and yeah I have a lot of old "new" stock. The exhaust I put on to day still had the bubble wrap. It had been collecting dust since the little boy in the picture was a baby. If I could afford to do it with no limit I would probably have aall OEM of the following; S13 Silvia aero side skirts, Type X rear bumper add on, factory S15 bumper with a Greddy lip, metal s13/S15 fenders, and I would still do the same with the 30mm fiberglass wide rear quarters. I do like your kouki S14 a lot. Would be the one car I would trade my DD S13 vert for, but then again I think I would trade for aa truck I can tow with too...

Put in a little more work. Resprayed the wheels and then cleared them, they pop now. It is good enough till I am set up to powder coat them. Then a set of eBay pleather seats. Drivers side on a bride super low bracket. was not low enough for me at 6'3", so I sold the seats today. Had a random rock kill my windshield too, weird luck... any ways that was replaced today as well.

Thanks, and no problem man. I hope it is working out well for you.
On a side not Seats.... I Need to make a seat selection on a limited budget. I am not willing to buy Replica side mounting fix back seats, that will most likely not fit my 6'3", 225LBS, 38 waist with birthing hips(LOL). I was going to buy S15 seats or 180SX seats, but I don't like them that much for the price tag that most are. And I would be single paying butt load in child support if I were to buy $1500+ for new/used real seats. so those would ultimately be way to expensive. I am thinking out loud right now... there is a few options right now. 1st option: Put in my S14 leather seats from my vert DD, and buy some cloth S14 seats for the vert. down side to this is the leather drivers seat is worn in the typical S13 seat spot, only looks bad if your looking for it tho. This will run me maybe $150 more if I have the S14 leather repaired. 2nd Option: Dye a set of cloth S14 seats black and put them in. this is a huge hassle though. Cost $165 with the dye and seats 3rd Option: Buy a 2nd hand single Sparco Fighter seat (per sparco spec sheet should fit me) that I found for sale on the cheap($200) do the fab work on the drivers side needed to sit it as low as possible. For the passenger side up a free S14 seat I was offered, dye it black Or pick up a semi local 180SX Type X Seat for the passanger side for $120 bolt it in call it a day. most costly of all any where from $250-$400ish I think my last option with the 180SX seat will have the most "Sweet!" factor out of them all. but the S14 leather seats are a close 2nd in my mind.

So I made the decision on seating after a few hours of debating with myself, and the opinion of a friend that will help me out with the mounting.
Drove 2 hours one way and pick this good shape Sparco Fighter seat which is big man friendly. I will be doing some thing along these lines to set up the seat I have a lead on a couple semi local Sparco Fighter seats. I will be picking one up with my Xmas bonus then I will have matching seats. I am strongly considering ordering the Red covers with black accents to replace the old worn cover on my current seat.

18" X 9.5" +12 all the way around. I have picked up a pair of 17" x 8" +25 for the front for better clearance. But i need to respray them to match, and get a pair of tires. The reason i want to go with the smaller wheels in the front is 18's are rubbing when I cut the wheel hard.

I washed and dyed the Sparco Fighter seat cover until I pick up a 2nd Sparco Fighter seat. Then I will order one or both as needed. I am tempted to order a red cover for the pair I end up with. I will be picking up a tube notcher, and the DOM tubing later this month to do the mounting and harness bar. Any ways on with the pictures.

Here are some terrible cell pictures I took after I plasti dipped, and mounted my new roof spoiler that came in this past week. Thank you for the prompt shipping and great deal on it Adam496. I will edit this with good quality pictures some time soon.
Then I found this gem brand new with all the plastic packaging still on it for $25 shipped. I plan on going with a lot of Sparco gear. I have wanted Sparco interior parts ever since F&F 1 in the theaters with Paul Walker's Green Eclipse. Just call me an old ricer IDC. Speaking of Paul I went out and had a Tuna sandwich for Dinner. There are no Dinners around me really so I went to the next best thing, subway...

How did that plastidip turn out for your interior panels? Where did you get it? I'm pretty anal when it comes to the scratches in my panels, so I was wondering if it would turn out alright to spray my rear interior panels, kick panel, fuse box panel, etc in black plastidip?

I ended up only using it on the radio trim, part of the center armrest, the ashtray/coin cup, and the bezel/trim for the cluster/steering column. I need to redo it on the coin cup since I scratched part of it on accident. I am not sure it would not hold up in places that you would touch regularly on a daily driven car. I am using plasti dip on the wiper arms, wiper trim, windshield trim, side & rear view mirrors, center tail light on the hatch, and rear roof spoiler. I feel that proper prep and a paint with clear would be a better way to go. Or powder coating metal parts.

Found a Killer Deal on a mint Red Sparco Fighter seat. I drove 300 miles one way to pick it up. Tomorrow I will be ordering a matching Red cover for the black Fighter seat. My Little Gearhead's favorite color is red so he was beside himself when I got home with the seat. The color looks much better in person the flash is washing it out badly with the light I have in the living room. My aim is to do the needed fab work the week after xmas and before new years and mount them in same day.
Edit 12/11/13; Today the ordered was placed for a new Red Sparco Fighter seat cover. I was told it is on back order and it would take 2-4 weeks to have it hand made in Italy and shipped directly to me. I called Sparco USA Directly because even though I have to order through a vendor, I like to go to the source for clear details. I was told by Sparco USA they have had 2 red covers on Back order for 11 months now, but typical back orders are suppose to take 2-4 weeks. How ever, if I have not seen them by week three and there is no new info on a ship date I have found a company that has a new Red seat in stock and is willing to order the black cover set that Sparco USA has on hand and swap it all out for me. I just do not want to wait a year for a new cover set. Once I have it all done and over with I will Share who these awesome folks are on all ends. As both vendors have been extremely helpful, and professional and I plan on buying from them both in the future.

This is just a generalized blog type post. Mainly typing out what I have in mind right now. Sections may end up being edited or deleted all together in this post over time. Or it will be left alone as something to look back on for my thoughts at the time and see where I went with it.
First thing that comes to mind is to install my Sparco seats(I am infatuated with these seats right now.), and Sparco shift knob into the car. Hopefully a few things I have on hand sell shortly. Then I can pick up a Sparco 350mm L575 Steering wheel which will go great with the Red and Black seats. Next up would be the back seat delete. MDF board will be used to level the carpet out where the Hatch cargo area starts. I am considering a few variations but I will share my current top choice. Once the MDF is set up, the 4 channel amp and 2 channel amp will be sunk into where your butt would go in the back seat, and a 10" sub in the center. Or place both amps on one side and the sub in the other butt area depending on space. It will have a truck box backing up under it to provide the bass some depth. Not wanting this to shake the block or even my car, just some depth to my music. I would have went with an 8" woofer but the 10" Rockford popped up in the truck box for $20, hard to pass up. There are 2 ways from here; if 6X9's on hand can be shoved into the rear speaker factory location after some extensive trimming, or if that does not pan out, the pair of 6X9's will be placed in to 6X9" boxes on top of the rear seat delete MDF board. And last I would set up a privacy cover for the cargo area. This is my top choice right now, so I won't go into the other ideas at this time. There are a few thing left that would be nice to have Plasti Dipped; The red sheet metal that can be seen on the fire wall that the carpet does not cover. All the window trim that looks old and worn that I have not covered yet. And Last to respray a few things that are pealing back up for various reasons, the trim at the bottom of the windshield, Coin cup, and third tail light. Powder coating, there is soo much That I want to cover with this. I am not dead set on a color scheme yet. Few Ideas come to mind. first is kinda generic Silver, and black on all suspension, engine brackets and other parts. An alternative would be all Red suspension arms and undecided on other Items as well. I feel this would give me a running Blue, Red, Gray range(or scale) and Black color scheme that will pop and stand out. As for the suspension, there is not a lot more I want to do to it. The plans for all of it would be along the lines of reinforcing all the arms and front brace to mimic the Nismo stuff and of course the above mentioned powder coating, along with all new bushings. And last would be to make a 1/2 cage only covering the rear of the car. I don't want to worry about hitting my head while driving, or climbing through a cage to get in. Then there is great power plant clamly waiting in the garage, which is a S14 SR20DET. It is a great running motor, just begging for a cleaning, some powder coating, and to be dropped in already. I feel like I might be swayed to an LS1 down the road though. but that is at least a year or 2 out before I would go there. And last for now is the Dash, a few Ideas come to mind. This will be some thing way down the road for me to get to eventually. So this will be put as short as I can. I want to extend the Cluster "hump" out where it comes down over the center of the dash. This new area will be set up with all the gauges that will be used, and if Space is willing I have an analog clock from a Q45 that would look like a great added feature. There are a handful of small things to tie up still, but the above mentioned are some of the bigger tasks for now. I hope you enjoyed reading through my thoughts on this project. Stay tuned to see it all come to reality in some form over time.
