need some tips or advice on a digital camera

I have a crappy digi cam right now....but it only cost $50.

Anyways I just wanted to know what is the best, yet reasonable digi cam to look for?

What the heck are megapixels and what is the bare minimum to get high resolution, CLEAR pictures?

Think of megapixels as megabytes. It's basically the largest (uncompressed) file that that camera will write. Bigger is better of course. If you don't do any professional shooting, a ~3 MP camera will likely suit your needs quite well.

On another note: Keep in mind the price for your memory media for said camera. Sony Memory Stick stuff can be quite pricey, esp with the newest stuff.. They have a 1GB memory stick now, but it costs more than most of the cameras!

it all depends on how much you want to spend. I have a new(er) sony one, i like it like 3.2 mega pixels, with screen, nice size, takes good pictures. The problem is the memory sticks, i have a 16mb one that cost me like $30, the biggest one is like $150 or so. Overall i am satisfied with mine for the price of $500.

BTW- Takes video clips but with no sound only picture.

I like the newer Sony P7+. My friend and roomate both have one.. I personally have a Canon S300 and its alright, but i'd get higher megapixels (2.1 right now) next time around. I heard the Canon S40s were pretty nice as well.

i have a Canon S30. love it. keep in mind that all those megapixels are USELESS if you shoot at 1600x1200 or less. full resolution on my camera is 2048x1536...which is way too big for anything i need to do. i shoot at 1600x1200 hi-res and then photoshop things smaller afterwards. Images are about 1mb each at this size.

www.megapixel.net is the best site around.
