Reggae Music
I know we have many music threads already, but I'm actually looking for some help specifically with some good reggae music. The the shit that people in Jamaica actually listen to. When we were there I heard all kinds of good shit, but didn't really ask about it when we were there.
I know Bob Marley and the Wailers... Any other real good stuff? There's a song from Marked for Death that is real cool.

Barrington Levy
Junior Reid Lee "Scratch" Perry (Kanye sampled him for the Jay-Z song "Lucifer") ... when we start talking dancehall, we REALLY have my attention, PM me if you would like to discuss, White Mel

Wait, wait, wait.
There's other Raggae besides Bob Marley and the intro song from Cops? P.S. Keep posting suggestions so I can expand my musical horizon. |

Okay, I can talk Dancehall now.
I also LOVE Buju Banton, enough own all of his shit. Capleton Sizzla Love him or hate him, Sean Paul is entertaining Spragga Benz is always a good look. Beenie Man is hit or miss, you have to be listening to the right album. Cham (formerly "Baby Cham") is also worth a listen. ... I have more, and some VERY obscure shit as well.

Werd, thanks for the suggestions. Gonna DL some this weekend.
Anything from Belly soundtrack worth noting? I know Sean Paul is on that song with DMX; Here Comes the Boom. I don't think anyone in the US knew who he was at that point. i know I didn't.

But watch the movie again. When they're in the Benz in Kingston, there is a song playing called "Bashment Time," by Frisco Kid, the part where DMX shoots the guy with the Mohawk, the song is "The Right Man," also by Frisco Kid, both of them are on one album. Another song to check into is the one they were playing at the club in Jamaica, it was a Mr. Vegas song, "Sucky Ducky" was the name of the song. I actually watched the credits to the movie to find the names of those songs and acquire the CDs that they were on.

That's an awesome post. Well not really, but way to go. Now quit fuckin up my thread. Hey Phlip, I mentioned Jimmy Cliff. Any idea if he's any good. I got his name off of Amazon's page for the Marked for Death soundtrack. A couple of the reviews on there mentioned he is really good. I've been working on other things over the weekend and didn't get a chance to DL any of this. I'm gonna have some time tonight. November can't come soon enough.

I love music in general and I'm sad to say this is a genre I've yet to explore. I'll try to check out some of the artists being mentioned.
Aside from Marley, I used to listen to Shabba Ranks (sp?) a lot back in HS. |

Thank you to everyone who gave suggestions. I DL'd a bunch of stuff last and listened to Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff ALL NIGHT! Wonderful music.
Thanks! You have given out too much reputation in the last 24 hours, please try again later.
