in trying to get this thread back in order what do you guys think of the above film when it comes to drifting? also, do you guys think winter 240sx/rwd driving changes impressions of drifting? in lots of ways techniques and skills required to drift and to adequately drive in snow are similar. one could call drifting's huge popularity on the west coast as in-part a result of the fact you lucky rust-free california car drivers dont get the great opportunity to slide the hell out of your car all the time for months out of the year.

More along the lines of insanely heavy cars, with garbage handling, and huge V8s in the front, trying to rally the streets of S.F. Quote:

Obviously theres more risk on ice but it seems to me like a lot of the Japanese drivers credit a lot their drifting ability to the fact that they had to learn to drive in crazy Japanese winters. and yeah sucks for you guys about the rust. Drifting is big on the west coast because CA is blessed with the largest population of poser douchebags in the world. Has nothing to do with weather trust me. we are also closer to japan so we get shit FIRST.

drifting is fun when your rich in my opinion. if u work hard for your money, fix ur car up and drift it, the mintue u reck it, you will hate drifting. thats why i dont drfit my car, because no matter how good you are, u will break it somehow.

Now, let's stop talking him, and his outrageous claims, and focus on the other areas of Drifting that some people think are stupid. Though his attitude and approach to this discussion, seems to be the very thing everyone dislikes the most.

The kind of drifting that is done in the snow, wet, WRC or movies is usually different then "Drifting" as we think about it. These are almost always done after the Apex of a turn. The Motorsport of Drifting means you initiate the drift before the turn, and hold it as smoothly as possible.(this includes outlaws and other sports that used it long before the "JPN" style). Just seperating the two schools to save any head butting |

Not arguing with anyone. But have you driven a new Mustang and drifted it? Me and a friend went to a car lot and test drove a 6 cylinder model for shiggles and did some sliding in it where I used to take my 240 and it really was impressive towards drifting. I mean you can buy a Mustang like that for the same price as a Z nowadays if you watch out for them. Im still stepping up to a Z one day but I also wouldnt pass up the coverage JR gets from Ford if I were him. We had a nice conversation with him about the RTR and his thoughts on Mustangs. Youd be suprised...

^THIS
This is also what makes drifting so stupid. 21 years old, yet openly admits illegal activities in a public venue. Good job "Corey". You've done your part to lower the expectations of your generation and hobby.

I can honestly say that growing up in area's with a lot of rain or snow can be advantageous to learning car control. I know growing up in Palo Alto in the rain did help.
What sucks about the current state of drifting is several things. While competition can be cool and fun the way its currently done in FD sucks. Not being able to pass your opponent in a drift is bullshit. That is one of the things( being able to pass your opponent) that makes the competition more of a competition and race and less of just an exhibition. Unfortunately the powers that be in FD just fail to realize that. Like others have said the focus on crashing as well. Improperly setup courses is that can enhance the crash factor is another. The other stuff is the fanboy, the kids that cannot drive but buy the cars and improperly set them up. A lot of this has already been brought up already so I do not think I need to go over it again.
