Calling all SR masterminds!
Wassup guys, so I stumbled across something I thought was "post worthy" yesterday when I bought a s13 blacktop front clip.
I got a 98 spec s13 blacktop (sr20det) Ok, so if you've done your research, you'd find that the 98 spec s13's came with sr20de's in the trims of a type s and type g NON TURBO, am I correct? So how is it that I came across a sr20det turbo from a 98 s13? Easy- it was swapped right? WRONG I know this info because I have the front clip which includes the plaque reading "RPS13JFTG" and "SR20(DET) 1998" so you know its out of a hatchback 180sx I thought I found a type x blacktop but later found out production of the type x stopped in 97.. or am i wrong again *sigh* also the type x ecu is j4/j5 while this is a s13 blacktop with ecu code e5 Someone help me out! I can't find anything on this engine and year of the s13's. I know this is a foreign engine in the states (CA) so info can be hard to dig up. Thanks everyone. *UPDATE* Some further deep research went down and I found these interesting info Type X, 5 Speed Manual - RPS13JFTG Type X, E-Automatic - RPS13JATG Type X, Super Hicas, 5 Speed Manual - RPKS13JFTG Type X, Super Hicas, E-Automatic - RPKS13JATG Type R, 5 Speed Manual - RPS13JFTH Type R, E-Automatic - RPS13JATH Type R, 5 Speed Manual - RPKS13JFTH Type R, E-Automatic - RPKS13JATH Type S, 5 Speed Manual - RPS13JFH Type S, E-Automatic - RPS13JAH Also notice how it says E-RPS13 on top of the plaque, turns out the E means non HICAS and K would mean it has HICAS Possible that I have the wrong ecu? Clip did not come with cluster so I can't tell anything off that but what I do know is that the glove box has this "tiger print" design on it... I thought this came only in the type x? More info to be discovered yet no reliable resources.... Last edited by RedOctober13; 07-27-2016 at 02:20 AM.. |

What leads you to believe it's from model year 1998? If it's the fact that it says 1998 on the plaque, that's not the year, it's the displacement "1998cc"
Here is mine out of my 97 type x front clip, I have no idea what the "w50" is after my model number though. Last edited by Bullitt_180sx; 07-27-2016 at 04:14 AM.. |

Super sick! And yea you're right! 1998 isn't the year! Rookie mistake... But I saw another s13 blacktop with a stamp reading 1992? Not sure if the Jdm models are different but the steering wheel is different compared to usdm 89/90 and 91-94 spec steering wheels. This steering wheel looks almost like a s14. I'll try and update with pictures tomorrow thanks for the help! Front clip was cut from the trans up. No body panels and I can't check the door jambs for proof either. Also has CD player stereo set and digital cluster but that doesn't mean anything... Cluster is gone

Yes because there was "Type X" trim in 95. You have a Chuki Type X front clip.
This is why I don't like when people incorrectly refer to every Kouki 180sx as "Type X". Type X and Kouki 180sx are not exclusive to eachother. Every Kouki 180sx is not a Type X. And every Type X 180sx is not a Kouki... |

Heh, just a little factoid to blow most 240 guys minds... There was a "Type R" 180sx trim it was basically a base model 180sx with factory SR20det that slotted in under the Type X.
Oh and these too 180sx Chuki skirts started on the 180sx Zenki 180sx Kouki valances started on the 180sx Chuki 180sx Zenki valances were actually mudflaps S13 Silvias Js/Qs/Ks had a factory lip available specific to the Silvia face S13 Silvia As were just Qs with Ks options (LSD, auto climate etc) and an SR20de |

Some interesting stuff here! Never knew they made a "type X" in 95, not that it's all that special but definitely good to know. Still wished I had the j4/j5 ecu but whatever. Again, thanks for the contribution guys, you guys helped out a lot.

J4/J5 ecus are nothing special... theyre just meant to work with the updated wiring harnesses that the Kouki S13s came with throughout the car. thats about it... oh, and like E series ECUs, they work with fat 02 sensors. Skinny 02 sensors will not work with E/J series ECUs and vice versa. Skinny and fat 02s are 2 very different types of 02s, they read differently. Also, the S13 redtop based wiring harnesses have a chassis based ground of the 02s, while the S13 blacktop harnesses have an ECU based ground.
