Next time you're dead...
So it looks like this recession is getting worse by the minute; not only do we have a flooded unemployment market, but burglaries are at an all time high... For the last week I've been enjoying my vacation in Peru, but as we all know, all good things must come to an end; and return to the real world. I got back in Saturday to see that somebody has crow bared my back door and stolen a laptop, an Xbox 360, a Wii, a large plastic bin, and a UGA blanket; so far that we know of... My roommate, who was home while I was away, had gone downtown with some friends. Apparently, someone felt oh so inclined to help themselves into my house; between the hours of 9pm and 2:30am. I can't tell you how mad it makes me that I wasn't here during all of that.
Anyways...dead-bolts and door locks, don't mean squat to a wooden door frame it seems. Here's the damage.... IF someone tries this again, and I'm home, your fuckin dead. If I'm not home, then lets see if this slows you down... It's called Door Jam Armor. I figured I'd fix this "weak point" with more than just another wooden frame; also installed them on every other outside access door. If you catch someone breaking into your place, throw another punch for me.

yah, my family has that door jam armour, as well as this dead-bolt mechanism that locks in three places, sort of like a vault.
in the pic with the green door, it doesn't even look like the dead-bolt was used? Or else why wouldn't it be bent/sheared off, and unable to recede into it's hole?

never had a place broken into. sucks.
crime is down in St. Louis 20% this year. sucks for you though. and i've been thinking about upping the security around here. one lock on front and back doors, and one motion light. that's the extent of our "security system" i'm thinking about another motion light and maybe another lock on each door. that should do the trick. ...how does that "door jam armor" really help? looks like just another couple kicks to get in, and if nobody's inside, that's easy enough. get some motion lights if you don't have any. put them on each corner of your house, or just where people would have to walk.

Look at the frame, the locks held up great but the wood broke out. I assure you, both locks were done. yeah, I'm not done. I'm getting an alarm system, motion lights, and installing trail camera's around my house. I will know who you are next time. I've used these in the woods and they've got great clarity. They encase the door jam with metal brackets; one around two of the hinges, one large one for the lock side, and one around each door lock. They're installed with massive three inch screws that anchor in the 2X4's behind the wall. I assure you, the method they used before will not work again.

Lights actually were on, oddly enough, and I'm going to be taking care of my moms 140lbs sheep dog; she hates anyone who comes to the door.

might look into that door jamb armor. back door's steel with a tiny window up top, no worries there... front door's wood, though. but no windows. it'd be nice to not eventually be killed in my sleep.

=\ No fun at all man..
Living down here in Phoenix means I can never leave the house for too long without getting an eerie feeling that all my stuff is probably gone. All I can say is at least it wasn't worse.. My buddies house got broken into two weeks ago when they were on vacation back home. They stole 2 laptops, an Xbox, all the games, their HD projector + screen, a full Yoshimura exhaust to a 2008 GSX-R and then defocated on the floor in the living room to top it all off.

Glad I live in a good town and a nice area. Apartments are harder to break into since so many people live so close to each other. If someone ever does break in and I'm home, I'll get to use one of my guns for live target shooting

I guess it depends on where you live. I'm in a quiet little agricultural/light density rural area and wouldn't have thought for a minute this would happen to me... I guess I was wrong.
there is a first time for everything, just be fortunate it hasn't happened to you yet..

At least we know they weren't car enthusiasts ;-) Some of the most expensive stuff in your house was all those turbo parts sitting in the middle of your living room and they didn't touch it!
Nice job on the reinforcements.

^ that's the full proof protection plan right there. I'm still waiting on my police report. Apparently my investigator is in training until Monday . I really just hope the prints they lifted come back with a match. When I talk to the investigator on Monday, I'll ask him about GA policy on shooting intruders. I can't believe these days you can go to jail just for protecting your own home!
