Looking to purchase a head gasket for the SR20DET but need some info first. I want to lower the compression by purchasing a thicker head gasket, any recs? company/make? and what size. will be running a GT3071R with 550cc injectors?

please advise!

A lot of people use Cometic. You can ask the manufacturer for material and thickness recommendations.

FUCK cometic iv heard/seen to many go bad. Im running a apex HG. Cosworth is another great HG

A lot depends on surface preparation and proper installation.

A lot of people blow out head gasket because they did something wrong, and not because of the head gasket failing.

A lot of head gasket failure is caused by the fuel system crapping out on high boost.

Cometic is TRASH if you're doing SR.

Get a Apexi unit, has a fire ring for perfect seal around cylinder and you can re-use it. I reused mine 4 times on my old race motor, just hit it with some copper gasket spray and torqued the old arps back down good to go (back when ARP were still made out of real steel).

I'm sure your Cometics are fine. Just make sure you surface your head and block to the right smoothness before using it. And DO NOT use copper spray on it. It causes degradation of the Viton coating.

Like I said above, the head gasket needs to work in conjunction with the rest of your motor. You need to talk to someone who builds hundreds if not thousands of SRs.

Attention to detail during installation is more important than the parts themselves.

Sometimes a well-assembled OEM head gasket performs better than an expensive aftermarket head gasket.

If you're hardcore, you need to call a couple of manufacturers and ask for their recommendations. They'll walk you through what you need to know.

I've had cometic and it blew on me, probably because i was using oem head studs, but there was coolant ALL IN BETWEEN the layers. I would just spend the extra money to make sure i get a good one. Currently have a cosworth 1.5. Did some research and hav not found any negative reviews on them.

advice, 550cc with gt30 isnt the best of combination. I maxed out my 550cc with 1.1 bar on my gt28716. With a gt30, it wont be enough.

You do realise that Cometic will build you any gasket to any specs using any material?
Their multi-layer steel is barely a step above OEM. It's meant to be cheap, not bullet-proof.

Sort of off topic but...

I had my shit bored to 86.5 because of a scar and i bought new pistons.

Was gunna order the apexi 1.1 mm.

When I clicked the 86mm it said that im actually getting an 87.

Apexi recommends getting a HG 1-2mm bigger than your actual bore.

Is this true?
