Swaping s15 sr20 Into s14 Questions
Hey Im New To The 240 Game Kinda. I Got A 98 240sx with 140000 miles on it bone stock non abs. i have done all my suspension work already and now the car is on its balls lol. but anyways i just went and checked out some motors at my local importer and they have a s15 sr20 with trans motor wire harness and driveshaft diff and axles. they r looking at 4650 for the swap and ill be doing the swap my self in my driveway one weekend or two. i cant seem to find any info on wiring in the speed sensor. or wiring to use a s14 cluster
im wondering if its just that simple as to just make a harness of the 3 wires that are from the sensor to the ecu? does anyone know? and then my other question is to use the factory s14 cluster i hear u need to switch around some pin outs at the cluster its self to make everything work? dose anyone know what those r. i have searched and i did come up with the pin outs of a s15 ecu but i cant seem find any for a s14 ecu pinout. if anyone has seen a thread thats they could share with me and help me make my decision to pick this up or not to let me know open to all input. just wanna have this all done right. thanks everyone |

Why do you want the S15 SR20?
If you are going to do any mods in the future, it doesn't matter which platform you use, but parts for the S13 SR are much cheaper and easier to find. I would recommend a S13 blacktop that appears to be in good condition and has good compression, etc etc.... The motorset itself is usually a lot more $$$ for the S15 engine, but you don't really gain much

Why not? All you have to do is add a fuel pump, fmic, crank the boost up to 1-1.2 bar, some tuning and should be able to make 300hp easy.
I cant help you with wiring but it should be similar to S14 kouki swap. I'd highly recommend you to run an S14 tranny instead of the S15 one due to the speedo nightmare you'd run into. S15 transmissions doesnt have a speed sensor on its bellhousing, the S15 cluster uses the ABS sensor on the diff. |

What importer did you go to?
I one I use in Philadelphia has an S14 SR clip, and I'm quite sure it's less money that the motor you're looking at. (I'm assuming the Doylestown in your location is Doylestown PA) |

To me, the s15 sr seems like a lot more money than it is worth... For what you are paying for that, you could buy 2 s13 blacktop motors. But its up to you, your car.
I would recommend checking out JDM Hookup > www.jdmhookup.com He is a local supplier here, and backs all his products. Very good rep. |

Only reason I'd go for an S15 engine is because they are the least likely engine out of the 3 to get fucking murdered out here. Most folk's S15 out here are taken care of because they are too prestine still to get turned into a damn missile.
I have yet to meet an S15 owner that did not care about their car, atleast Spec R S15s, not the shitty Spec S. Want to save money, get an S14 kouki engine. Basically the same engine minus for the smaller injectors (370 vs 440) and non-ball bearing turbo. |

Not to mention a shitt load less problems. I mean if that's your thing go for it not a lot of people swap in an S15 Sr. Just be prepared to do a lot of searching and more researching because S15 Sr swap info is not readily available yet.

PS: Just in case some of you folks dont know but Automatic Spec R engines are exactly the same as Kouki S14 Ks. Same size injector and turbos. So if you pick up an S15 engine, you might wanna check if its an Auto or 6 speed version since there are differences engine wise (injector and turbo).

If you do end up going with the s15 sr20 with the 6 speed, some things that are necessary are your gonna need the s15 diff as well for the abs speed sensor. in order to wire it up direcly to the s14 cluster your gonna need a Dakota Digital sgi-5 to convert the abs analog signal to the digital signal for the speedometer. The only other headache is, by the ecm where the engine harness connects to body harness, the connectors are the same however all the pinouts are different which means you'll need to re-pin one of the connectors in order to have everything such as your fuel pump and such work properly. I believe the eccs relay needs to be rewired. If you plan on keeping a/c you'll also have to make custom hoses and redo the wiring for that as well. As far as i can remember that is the only major things besides having to extend some engine wires as the ecm is made to fit on the left hand side instead of the right. (This is for a 95 zenki 240sx however i'm pretty sure the 97-98 kouki's are pretty much the same).

If you ask me the s15 motor is not worth the money, first off the 6speed trans is shit it in housed in the box that the 5 speed is in so the gears usually don't hold up that whell, the wiring is gonna be a nightmare and its still all stock parts s15 is at 250hp and the s14 is at 220. I got my Sr20det s14 for about 2k so with the all the money your gonna spend you could get the 14 and a Bc stroker kit and be at like 350-400hp. But with all that money I would reather go with an rb26dett you can get a lot more power out a 6 than a 4.
