So my car runs rich as shit..
mileage is crap.. I'm backfiring all day long..

AND under full throttle.. boost will peak at 8psi (like normal) and then start creeping back to 5-6psi.

Any clues as to where and how to start looking for the leak? I can't keep driving like this 'cuz gas prices SUCK.

EDIT AGAIN: UPDATE: all couplers and vacuum lines are tight.. the manifold to the head nuts are tight... turbo to mani is tight..
I'm gonna check the MAF sensor tomorrow. Everything looks fine under the hood.

any ideas? Now my wideband just reads "RICH" at idle
I got about 150-160 miles to over 3/4 tank of gas.. this sucks

also.. I T'd off my FPR's vacuum signal for my boost gauge.. I know I should read a leak in boost if it were reading bad.. but it doesn't

EDIT: The problem is solved.. its a hole in my intercooler core end-tank! A crappy weld job.

well if you are looking for a boost leak, make yourself one of these tools, i did a write up on it but now its gone, basically get some pvc pipe from lowes that has a threaded end on it. then find the pvc cap that threads on to that end. drill a hole in the cap the size of a schrader valve, then insert one. seal around it and get a rubber coupling, also from lowes, and two clamps. now take you intake tube off and attach this piece to your turbo, clamps both sides down and use about 20 psi from an air compressor and pressurize everything! it will be obviously as hell where the leak is if you do it this way.

yah, I've seen that but would it help to find one on the exhaust side? That's where I think its coming from because I still pull steady vaccuum..

well, you could be pulling vacumm just fine, and then when you boost a clamp could back off or expand or a coupler could give and you could be leaking boost there.

I'm pretty sure its not on the intake side.. but I dunno for sure

if its the exhaust side, then it shouldnt be boost leak. I dont think a leak in the exhaust would contribute to your bad milage and boost dropping.

i had a coilpack die. wow did it suck

check all the vacuum lines, doesnt KA have a bunch on the intake mani?
check piping, check your couplings for leaks/cracks, and of cousre make sure everything is nice and snug.

It wouldn't be sticking if your hitting your target boost, then falling off. I wonder if running that rich has something to do with it? Maybe its your FPR gone bad?

Well being that I have actually seen your set up I am going to say that it is one of 3 things that are affecting manifold pressure.
1. It could be that you arent running the EGR and there can be pressure released from the back of the mani, somehow not tightened tight enough or what ever, using the biki, let alone having a turbo system makes using any equipment to the back of the mani pointless.
2. it could be a bad intercooler, and the only way I would know how to check that is too remove it and pressurize it and see if pressure drops.
3. Always check the BOV, they can leak and I don't know if the one you bought was cheap or not.
evan stop drivng the DAMN car or the KA can throw a rod on backfire, wait till the problem is fixed. If you would like I can stop by your pad on Sunday, I'll bring some beer.
Also do you still need the SOCK? You didn't call me back.

I don't know what you're talkin' about with the EGR.. I blocked it off and the plug is sealed 20X over.. is that what you meant? Where is the pressure released?

the bov is a turboXS RFL...

I'm gonna try to pressurize my system soon and check it for leaks..

Yes Evan that is what I meant, you sealed it with a EGR block off plate that could be leaking at the back of the manifold. I have no clue what you used to seal it with but you should of used the black or red RTV silicone gasket maker.
Pressure can literally escape from the 4 holes one in each runner and then out through the back of your block off plate.
I'll call Dave at Nissan for your SOCK since I know you need it for shure now.

evan, ur clutz... whats the easiest way to find an air leak with out any fucken manual labor... u of all ppl should know this..... a squirt bottle filled with water and some soap.... spray away and find ur air leak.... if u see bubbles forming around an area.. wahlahh probem located...

Evan it's really easy. Take a spray bottle from home depot for like a $1.00
Add some dish soap something that gets sudszy, and lots of water to dilute it.
Then apply spray to any joints or seals.
This is the same method that I use in the general construction biz when installing gas lines, it would really suck if someone light there appliances and go up in smoke.......

checked the MAFS.. everything seemed ok, comparing it to SpeedMonkey's Z32 MAFS. re-tightened all the couplers..

Pulled an ECU code of 55 (all gravy baby).. except.. its NOT!!

What else did we try? Besides beer drinking? It progressively gets worse as I drive.. but it only takes a matter of minutes before its just RICH..

Vince.. you think a leak would mess up my AFRs that much?

I haven't looked at your maps, or looked at the engine. So I can't give you a defenite answer.
A leak would defenitly screw up your a/f R's especially since boost pressure is dropping as the engine is increasing RPM. If boost pressure drops and you have an aggresive ecu tune on the biki, it will defenitely run rich.
It can also be the turbo itself could be that it is going bad, but that is hard to tell untill the entire system is checked for leaks.
From what I understand you are also using a wideband 02. Widebands don't last long and to determine the ratio it could be off on calibration. Usually I just tune with a wide band , and then I use the narrowband after I know what my AFR's are running at especially since I am using an SAFC for monitoring air ratio at throttle as well as my knock.
So like I said earlier I need to come by and check it out. As for code 55 I'm at Rollyns house in elcerrito right now and I don't know what that code is unless you could tell me off hand.
