CA18DET Cut in sections
Some backround info:
I had a CA18DET engine revision done, got it in the car and ran fine for about 5000km (3125miles). But then suddenly huge powerloss when overtaking a lorry on the highway.. Water temps never got above 96degrees celcius, but i had a very localised sweet smelling mist behind me (coolant in cilinders). Block was honed to 84.00mm Upon disassembly of the block we found this: Yes thats right, rusted through from coolant side... Yesterday the weather was nice enough to take a 'closer' look: Enjoy More detailed shots of the cuts in the water canals, if you look closely you can see the smaller canal is cut too far to the cilinder, thus cousing the leak if you hone the cilinder wall. Also interesting to see is the oil gallery. I stuck a piece of isolated wire through the oil feed to turbo, it ends up right behind the oil filter. |
