NA 330ZX VLSD swap
Before I get hammered for not searching, just want to say I have. I've found a few threads about the topic but can't get a straight answer to all my questions. If I'm wrong and overlooked it somewhere, and you know where to look, just tell me and I'll go there. Everything I read confilicts with something I just read. So if someone could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have a base model 96 S14. I picked up an NA 300ZX VLSD. I originally had read that by just using the J30 axles I would be ready to go. Then I also read that I would need different output shafts. So I guess my question is, what parts do I need to make this work? If all I need is the J30 axles, do they need to be from a specific year? I've seen that they need to be pre-95, but I'm not sure. I really wanna get this finished, the unpredictability of the one legged wonderr I'm driving is killing me. Thanks in advance for any info.

you can use 5 bolt j30 axles because z32 differentials only come 5 bolt. you can also swap the differential's 5 bolt output shafts to 6 bolt from a j30 vlsd, that way you can use the stock s14 6 bolt axles.

Thanks to both of you! I knew I had to change the cover, just wasn't sure about everything else. So what about the year of the donor car for the axles? I plan to just do the axles, intead of having to change the output shafts. I think it'd be easier to source out the axles as well.

You don't need to swap the diff covers.
It would be better to use the Z32 cover anyways since it holds more fluid and has cooling fins on it. Any 92-94 J30 axles will work. |

I had no idea the cover would even bolt up! If that's the case, I'll definetely keep it. And thanks for clearing up the question about the years. Thanks again everyone.
