I have used the MAP ECU on a supras, and sc's I have also installed them on EVOs and on SR20DET. Its just as easy an SAFC to tune if you have a wideband! Just tune for 14.7 AFR at idle and 11.7 at WOT, 20 at Deceleration and 14.7 at cruise. Then you are set!

you convert the car over to MAP-based. Power FC D-jetro is a form of MAP-based standalone. Also F-con v-pro gold or something is mapped based. Other companies are Haltech, AEM. Its not uncommon on an SR, most people just don't want to spend that kind of money on a standalone kit.

Also most Nissans are MAF-based cars that allow you to swap back and forth from MAF to MAP.

He's talking about a MAP converter unit, that uses your stock ecu. It replaces your MAF and lets you tune the car (if you have a wideband, like previous poster said). I'm also interested in hearing from those who have used them, might be a cheaper (and easier/cheaper to tune) alternative to the AEM or PFC D-Jetro.

its like 400$ - so if ur looking for an inexpensive way of tuning this isnt it - but it does let you run MAP

its inexpensive! How much does a SAFC NEO cost? Hell what about PowerFC D Jetro, AEM, HALTECH. Granted they offer more tuning. But the map ecu is really good deal at 400 for what it can do?

ok well i look at it this way i have a stock mafs on my sr20det and im going to upgrade my turbo etc so if i convert it to a map with the MAP ecu for 400.00...i wont have to buy a z32 mafs which is close to 200.00 so really im payin 200.00 for the system i would say that is a good deal and much more tuneable than a safc..

bingo ~

This actually got me thinkin, because I was about to pick up an AEM setup, but then I remembered how much of a pain in the ass the AEM is to base tune without a dyno. I might just go wideband + MAP ECU and call it a day...

so then I start lookin around, and a few (non-nissan) forums have said that the MAP ECU's dont work with SR20s... which makes me curious, cause I've never actually seen an SR20 with one.

Anyone tell me/us for sure?

I've seen plenty of SR's switched over to MAP sensors.

I'll be running on the SDS EM-4 shortly and I'll be using GM sensors

It's easy on the supra cause the JDM ECU is MAP.

um... MAP-ECU is a unit - a piggyback... it does work on SR's - and a SAFC is like 150$ - thats the cheapest way (but gay also).

the supra guys that use the map-ecu unit are not using the JDM ecu - or they wouldnt need the unit at all. The reason so many of them use it - is because u cant "rom tune" the toyota ecu's affordably - so they're stuck with standalone or a piggyback. This is one of th efew piggybacks allowing for a switch to speed/density.
