S15 resources?
Hey all, been out of the car scene for almost 10 years, but now that I'm settled down again, I'm looking back into it. I miss my S13 ("Powered by Friends!" with white flames on the side) to pieces, and actually shipped parts of it back with me.
Anyway. The S13s in Hong Kong are mostly crap, so in as much as I want one, it's just hard to find one with a straight body... not to mention, I can have an S15 for a little more than double the price. So. Any direction on where to look for a "definitive" S15 handbook? Besides the obvious stuff, I have no experience with such "advanced technology"... having only previously driven/toyed with a bone stock KA S13. (The car was 100% suspension/chassis work!) i.e. Common issues, known lemons, bad years, turbo problems and other non-obvious problems, etc... I did search the forum but everything seems to be in the WTB section or is only relevant to people doing swaps, which isn't the most useful for an S15 2nd hand buyer. Thanks in advance and hope to be more active here... again. Not expecting these to be useful, but the two cars I'm looking at: http://dafhujiqjhu.www.28car.com/pic..._site=w&h_bak= and http://dafhujiqjhu.www.28car.com/pic..._site=w&h_bak= |

They are extensions of S13/S14, so have somewhat the same caveats.
You want a spec R to get the 6 speed gearbox and the helical diff. Beware though, although it looks cool to have a 6spd, it does not like increased power. Some people even break them with stockish power. The first JDM S15 spec R have the known T28 ball bearing turbo. all other ones have the standard bearing T28. |

S15s are pretty much the same car as S14s. All the underpinning is the same for the most part. You can use S14 suspension pieces and exhaust. Subframe between S14 and S15 is slightly different due to the difference in angle of the suspension arm mounting points.
As far as what to check for, You'll have the usually rear wiper arm rust, check under the front cowl for rust, pop the rear window plastic trim inside and check for rust there too, then the usual rear wheel well rust. Engine wise, the VTC sprocket still have a tendency to go bad and make a ruckus. |
