S14: Adding OEM Keyless Entry to 1997 SE?

I have a 1997 SE. Im looking to see if it's reasonable to add OEM Keyless to the car. As far as I can tell, mine is one that did not come with Keyless...

Before someone says a DEI kit would be better, I Know, but for simplicity and reliability, I would be happy with a simple OE setup.

Are the cars prewired? Would I just need the module and a key fob? I know with Toyotas there is a breakage sensor and such, is there any of this mess?

Has anyone added OE keyless?

Are you sure your car doesn't have a keyless system? I thought all SE's had keyless standard.
Does your car have a security light next to your hazard button?

It's not as easy as you think. The only cars you can easily add keyless to are 95 SE's.

All SE's are technically wired for it, but the actual receiver for the sensor is in the rear windscreen.

As far as I know the parts needed are:
Relay pack in driver rear quarter panel
Hood intrusion switch
SE anti theft switch
Keyless computer
Keyfob
S14 rear windshield with sensor for keyless (Has three prongs soldered to it, two for defroster, third for keyless computer antenna)
Antenna wire (which may or may not have something to do with rear defroster)

I'm sure there's more crap I'm missing but that's a start.

No, my car does not have the security light on the dash.

Hmm, that's disappointing. I wonder if you could use a substitute antenna

More on OEM keyless retrofit

I just completed this and let me tell you - it's a mammoth amount of work. To add to mewantkouki's post above you'll also need to change out: both door key lock cylinder assemblies and the trunk lock cylinder (which have magnetic sensors and wiring), both door lock actuators (which are 4-prong harness plugs rather than 2-prong to add sensors), and the two theft relays in the engine bay (attached to the main fuse box with their own cover).
That's the easy part. The hard part is the wiring to support the system. The following harness have several additional circuits which either need to be added or the whole harness swapped: The Engine Bay harness, Main harness (under dash), both Door harnesses, the Body harness (runs down the left side rocker front-to-back), and the Tail harness.
A word to the wise: There's a switch inside the steering column that senses the key has been inserted. This is how you get the Smart Entrance Control Unit to enter program mode. These are usually worn, so make sure yours works by checking it with a volt meter at the SECU.

Sadly, all SEs are not wired for this. Only the ones manufactured with the Keyless Entry systems. These have unique harness part numbers which are different from regular SEs. See post above. - TeddyJr

Such a shame.. I guess it's back to looking for a nice aftermarket system that does NOT have remote start...

Just because the nice alarm systems that have remote start does not mean you need to hook it up. Most shops will not wire up remote start to manual transmission cars anyhow.

Does this also apply to the 1996 SE model? I've been trying to get mine to work but I cannot get the unit into programming mode. I do have the keyless entry computer, the antenna in the back window. But I don't think there is a trunk switch wired up, I also cannot find the multi remote relay 1 and 2. And I do have a theft light, but it's not wired up either. I don't even see a harness for it.

As a note, if your guys switch in the key column is worn out, you can unplug this and short it to trick the keyless computer. It has two wires, red/black which always has 12v, and black/pink which goes to pin 24 on the keyless computer "multi-remote control system"; which is under the driver side kick panel if you have it. It has a lot of wires going to it. The FSM says around 37 wires. I'd take pictures if tapatalk didn't suck.

It will be much easier just installing an aftermarket keyless entry kit. Any viper system should work great and you do not need to wire in the remote start feature. If you need help with the wiring, I can show you the wiring diagram I made when I installed my Viper system in my S14.

Dennis C, if I could get that diagram, that'd be great!

Have you decided which alarm kit you are getting? If you can send me the wiring chart for the kit, I can give you a list for every wire you will need to connect to under the dash.
