Oh believe me I'm not saying she should go sr but there are some advantages to it. I wouldn't do it and I don't plan to with my car that's on it's way either. Rb25/26 is the only way to go with in a skyline

I know that some people do it. I could see if it came with a NA RB (really excited to see that GTE as I have never seen a single cam RB before in person) or CA18E, but I really love the iron blocks which is why I went CA back in 2006 when everyone else was doing SR's. Like I said, It might go RB25 later on down the road, there are plenty of them locally to source when and if I ever want it. Really want to get it 100% solid and safe before I even worry about making 100HP... I have these visions of what 25 years of Living in Japan has done to the under body, bushings, suspension, ect and want that all sorted before I even consider trying to make a bunch of power. I know there is a slight paranoia with all the checking and verifying Steve's guys have done over seas, but until I have had my hands on it, it hasn't been checked enough.

The $1500 covered everything being repainted expect the engine bay which is far cheaper than anything not Maaco I could find locally when I wanted to paint my last S13. the last S13 I had was closer to 4k just to paint match the OE color, so I had to jump at it. was the only thing I couldn't handle doing myself here comfortably. Everything else I can handle doing on my own. As the car arrives and I get to dig into it more I'm sure I will find little things that need repairs, but that is no problem for me. I much prefer to replace it on my own anyway.

I have a feeling Ikeya shopping is in my future....
$1,500 is an amazing price for paint work in Japan! Great color choice as well. Your car is going to look great when it's done.

You can use 90% of the S13 Energy Suspension "master kit" (It does everything with the exception of the front suspension.) Get yourself some adjustable front upper control arms and you are set.

If you want, Swap in an S13 subframe to completely delete the hicas system at the same time

Glad to see an R32 build on here. I might start one once I have made more progress.

Thank you for mentioning that. Reminded me that I have almost the entire rear end of my master bushing kit sitting in my parts room. Would need new subframe inserts, but that isn't bad. Think I want to keep the hicas for the time being.

Glad see all these skyline owners.

Just about 2 weeks till this arrives. counting the days. Got some more parts on their way, will share as they make their way here. hopefully we can get it asap after it arrives at the port post inspections. There is the month nissan meet on the 16th, and several of the local skyline owners are going. as of now I have the Thurs and friday of that weekend off so we have a couple of days to get the car all put together before the meet. Driving it w/o the coilovers on wouldn't be the worst thing ever, but there is no chance I'm waiting to install them.

I spent some of the day working on insurance, the geico rep I spoke to today said they weren't able to cover the vehicle.... will be spending the rest of the weekend getting that sorted.

Lol, Thanks.

So I'm going to be spending the weekend shopping for car insurance. after bickering with another rep who was convinced I purchased the car as a "race car" I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor said Geico's Policy is to view Skyline's as "Super cars" and the only thing they were willing to do was liability. I laughed a little and in a weird way kind of made me feel good, but still annoying as shit. Looks like some of the classic car insurers are better about it and will just let me do a stated value and not really worry about it being a "super car" or not.

I didn't even think insurance covered the car if you "race it". So it being a "race car" is really none of their business, but o well. Once we sort out who to use, I may move the other 3 cars as well if it makes sense. Least my husband's mazda with all its mods should probably really be under that kind of insurance.... even if he only puts 1000 or less miles a year on it....

No problem, I have some good leads from Will and a couple of the guys who have imported cars before or have state titled cars.

this isn't a 240sx, and even if it was I would have full coverage. The car isn't being built with ebay parts and protecting my investment in case shiz happens is money well spent. Based on what I have found for "classic car" or "custom car" I should be able to get into the 4-600/year for full coverage with mileage regulation, which matter not to me anyways as I own several cars.

I maybe pissing money away as I never once used my insurance on my 240's, but heaven forbid someone try something stupid and I'm not there to blast them.... Even if it gets to the 100 or so per month, it is worth the piece of mind with all I have invested in it already.

Never had full coverage on any of my 240sx's. Instead, I like to keep a chunk of change saved up in the event something does happen. Plus, I keep a dash cam recording all my drives in case someone wants to do something stupid and try to put fault on me.

I can't believe you park your 2 tone at the mall.... everytime I see it

Just got a quote from my first "classic car" insurance. $305 for the year (15k stated value). 2500mile max and it has to be my "3rd car". We have 4 so it isn't even close to a big deal.

going to call a few more other places, but that guy knew exactly what I had and was great to deal with. Pretty sure that is where I'm going to end up, them understanding the importation process and all that really had me set my mind at ease. They also insure my friend will's cedric.

They were offering 30/month liability only. I can do 305/year for full coverage and 15k stated value. I was doing some reading today, seems geico has a habit of dumping policy holders if they using them in any form of motorsports, which is also encouraging me to dump them entirely. Have heard USAA is good, progressive is good, and statefarm is good, but haven't made a call to any of them yet.

Going to call a couple of the classic car companies as well. I will keep people posted what happens with each as there are about a dozen guys who are waiting on cars who are about to have the same mine field to cross.

It's kind of strange seeing Americans sorting through the fun of RHD insurance. Hopefully a stupid few do not ruin it for the lot (like what happened in my province).

RHD is not their issue.... "super car" is.... lol. Like it a freaking lambo.

Curious what issues came up. There are plenty of "state titled" cars in this state. Don't see those of us who did it the 100% legal way screwing it up.

Fast and the Furious is the issue! haha but in all seriousness I can see why, plus Florida has tons of imported cars so I think that's part of it too. That's kinda why I wanted to get onboard early here before these dudes ruin my chances..Should just be a month and a half more wait for me

Here it was a lot of people (read younger) who were importing junk cars, and using classic car insurance. Couldn't really handle the power, and ended up writing off cars left, right, and centre. Then they all had their hands out looking for insurance cheques, and importing more junk.

They wised up, and changed the rules so that RHD cars had to be 25 year old, for you to be able to use their insurance. They were the best, cheapest option for any REAL enthusiast.

Then a lot of other larger insurance companies who were taking new policies started to write no new RHD policies into the under writing, because of the payouts vs. money coming in for actual insurance. The "risk" involved was not worth it to them.

Now everything is rather hush hush and I wouldn't tell my sister who I'm insured under, for fear of getting the policy thrown out from the influx of people trying to get it.

It's crazy up here (in my province). I honestly don't know if it's going to be worth it for me to buy a BNR34 in a few years... That's how crappy the process was for me with my S15.

State side you have to be 25+ to get any classic insurer to cover you. It has been that way since I was a kiddie as far as I know. We have several classic cars, my family doesn't really get the nissan thing as most of them are chevy guys.

My deepest fear is the idiots ruin it. Both the guys who want to skirt importation regulations and those who decide to be idiots once they get a hold of the cars. Well I do like the idea of seeing more and more cars here as that only encourages importation of parts, but also stocking of replacement parts, but seeing some of the tool bags who already are following the different importers makes me hope that McD's doesn't start paying $15/hour.

yes the F&F stuff probably doesn't help. Intial D probably didn't help either.

We are riddled with questionably legal cars. I could easily have bought a "state title" one and had it here today, but the 9 months, the cheaper price, and no feds knocking on my door asking about vin numbers were a decent selling point as well. these last couple of weeks are going to be brutal, but just got to keep my eye on the prize. Order more parts earlier in the week and even this morning, so waiting is what I'm doing...

GL on your purchase!

docking dates set. hope to have the car in my possession the 2nd week of august. There is a meet on the 16th and I'm hoping to have it there. If all goes to plan I have the 14th and 15th off to work on it before the 16th so I can take it out that evening, but will depend on how long the port authorities take to inspect it and "show who important" they are.

Lucky my boss has been very understanding of the whole waiting thing, even if she doesn't get what I want the car for, and has been willing to relocate my days off so I can spend a few days with the cars soon as I can.
