Eh, I am ready to move on to the next one. Either an R32 or an E63 AMG wagon.
Going to work on the Z31 today. Got the S13 slim brake booster powdercoated along with the new upper coilover hardware I ordered. The old stuff got corroded when I cleaned the engine bay before paint and the green upper plates didn't look right with the car color so had them done satin gunmetal. Also had all the hood latch hardware and radiatior connecting pipe plated. Soon it will go up to MD for full Titanium octopus header and exhaust. |

Got a bunch of work done today. Intake manifold is fully torqued on the head with gasket. N/A throttle cable linkage is installed which eliminates the linkage on the turbo intake plenum. It will now be driven by one cable wheel as the 3 bodies are linked together. The TPS is installed. Brake and clutch master are in along with the clutch pedal and wiper motor. Put the freshly plated hood catch in too. Pulled the heater core so I can find someone to braze some 90's on the hoses to go straight down towards the trans tunnel. Just waiting on my velocity stacks now and next month, the full Ti exhaust will be done. Getting close now!

Carbon kevlar stocks are done and the bases are going to anodizer to get done in black.
I got my replacement for the R30 too. A car I have wanted for a long time. One of 209 E63 AMG wagons made in 12-13 (still RWD) with the bi-turbo V8. I got the highest priced AMG wagon ever built which was $173k new and was a Designo Portfolio studio car meaning it was bought new and then sent to the AMG basement in Germany to be taken apart and rebuilt to custom spec. The interior was $48k! |

I need to get rear diff bushings and my subframe doesn't have the oem ones. The poly ones I see for sale state that you reuse the original metal cups but since I don't have them, not sure what my options are.

You can get Nismo OE replacements, but they are wildly expensive for what they are. I've ran solids in a few cars and never noticed any real increase in NVH, get a set of SPL and you'll be set.

It seems the outer cups are still in the subframe so looks like I will be ok.
We mocked up the front suspension on one side only because Techno Toy Tuning sent some incorrect hardware. I also am unable to find replacement hubs so will have to clean up the existing ones before final assembly. The caliper will require 30mm of clearance from the back of the spokes on the wheels and the Watanabe's only have 10mm. It seems that if I pull the arms and camber plates in, I should be able to run a 20mm spacer and still not have any poke. I really don't want to compromise on the wheels, brakes or ride height and don't want too much camber or tire stretch. The velocity stack bases have been anodized and will be epoxied today then shipped to me. |

The wheels fit (barely) with the 20mm spacers. You can hardly fit a business card between the back of the spoke and the caliper. These tires are too wide as well so will be able to get pretty low with the 195's. Got the rear diff and axles in as well. First day in a long time working on the car where everything just went as planned.

My best friend and I were able to fit the rears with the 225/50! We had to remove the locking nuts on the upper arm to bring it all the way in but they are unecessary anyway as it also has locking bolts and cannot unthread on it's own. Will also be able to fit Wilwood rear calipers with Z32 rotors. Toyo is sending me a free set of R1R tires even though SEMA is cancelled this year. Next weekend, the car will be a full roller with steering at the final ride height. The velocity stacks arrive this week as well.

Not gonna say I'm surprised at all given the level of craftsmanship, but your builds catch enough attention from the likes of toyo that you get hundreds of $ of promotional goods? That's righteous.

First time working on the car again in 3 weeks.
Got the passenger front side suspension and brakes installed and all 4 corners roughly dialed in at the final ride height and a very rough base alignment by eye. Steering is hooked up and got the driver side NOS door handle installed with all the linkage hooked up. Planning on getting the heater core and blower motor back in next weekend along with the dash and then it is ready to go up North for header, exhaust, radiator, catch can, power steering/coolant reservoirs and driveshaft. Then it will come back for rear brakes, wiring, fuel setup and final assembly before it goes for alignment and tuning. After all that, it will be fully wetsanded, buffed and then the entire car will be wrapped in Xpel clear film. |
