I am going to be getting a digi cam before thanksgiving, at Best Buy cuz they are offering one of those no interest till 2004 things. I am most likely going to get an Olympus D550 for $299 with an extra 32MB Smart Media card.

I was just wondering if anyone had the camera and what they thought about. I read some reviews and so far everything is good except no sound on the videos, but I don't care much for the videos.

Also if there are any cameras between $299-$350 (I know, small price range) that are on the Best Buy site that any of you have and love, please give me reviews, I don't want to regret my decision.

I need it basically for everyday pics, like when I go on vacation for christmas, and also when I get a car for some nice shots, and I am most likely going to start to just take pictures of stuff for fun of it, to work with photoshop, but I am a n00b so nothing to advanced.

I have used the sony p71 for 349.98, i really liked that one... easy to use.. looks real nice pretty durable we dropped it twice and didnt even scratch it, the other one that we sell a lot of is the kodak 4330, i havent used it yet but we have sold atleast 8-9 of them and not a single one has come back and been complained about... and of course the toshiba are nice.. but a little more expensive.. but they have all glass lense no plastic crap, which is very nice
thats my little review for ya

i have an oplympus. it's the second one i bought (first one got stolen) my dad bought a kodak digital camera the same time i bought my second olympus (why, i don't know) and my mom's kodak takes better pictures and it has sound for the video capture, unlike mine, but you said you don't care about the video part... my olympus takes good pictures outside while my mom's takes good pictures both indoors and outdoors. just a suggestion.

Well I got the Olympus D-550, so far I am pretty happy with it, except I have no clue what I am doiing with these cameras.

BTW is it the batteries or the camera, they lasted like 3 hours, but I guess its cuz I had it on the whole time cuz I was messing around with it. I need to get some rechargable batteries, and a power outlet cord.

Also I like how you can plug it into your tv and watch whats on the camera on tv, and it is decent quality, just a little grainy.

I also need to go through the long manual to learn how to use it, but so far so good. I also got a 64MB smart media card (on top of the 16 that comes with it), and a camera bag, all for 300 + tax

it may be a good idea to get the rechargeables these cameras use up a lot of juice. and if you go somewhere, bring an extra set of batteries just in case.

while we're talking about cameras I need some opinions if you don't mind... I just got a Toshiba PDR-2300 for $150 ($50 off) and a 128mb SD card for $40 ($40 off). The thing is i don't really know if i can find a better deal on a better camera online or if i should keep this and be happy with the deal i got (after thanksgiving sales). Heres some basic info:

2.0mp, 3x optical-2x digital zoom, glass lens, 15 sec avi video mode (no sound or zoom while in this mode), huge memory card, supposedly just introduced within the past 2 months or less, comes with case, etc...
basically the only reason i kinda don't like it is because its not really that small.
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_...s/pdr2300.html

what i'm going to be using this for is random car pics, weekend parties (thats why size is a concern), and whatever else comes up. can any of you recommend a comparable camera that is maybe a little smaller for a comparable price (how is the Fuji FinePix 2650?)? or maybe this thing will grow on me who knows ... Any ideas?

BTW my friend got a Sony P-71 a while ago and he loves it, he paid almost $500 for it though since they had just come out.

From the little I know, all the specs for taking pics of cars and such, are all good, everything but the size. Yours is bigger than mine is, mine is just a little on the heavy side, but fits in my pocket just fine.

The camera I was looking for was an Olympus D-360, and that is smaller than the one you have, or at least looks smaller, and it works just as good as the one you have, except its ~$200, and doesn't come with a 128MB card, which is very big, I havn't even had to change to my 64MB card yet (using the 16MB), but I usually remove my pics at the end of the night when they are on my comp.

You should look into Nikon Coolpix, something in the 2.0 MP range, they are great looking, and great size, and should be good for just random pics.

The higher the Megapixel the better quality the picture is, and the better it prints out.

i've pretty much decided to take this thing back anyway since i don't want to settle for somehting i will regret later. I'm almost pretty set on getting a Canon S200 digital Elph. I've read a lot of good stuff about them and its just the right size to be able to carry around. Plus i can get it for ~$250 shipped and i just got 128mb Compact Flash memory for $30 . Anyone have one of these or hear anything bad?
