MG stands for Morris Garages. William Morris opened a bicycle repair garage in Oxford, England in the early 1900's. The first MG motorcar was produced in the early 1920's.
The company built many fine automobiles, including the MG T series and the Morris Minor.
The company became part of BMC, then British Leyland, which included Triumph, Austin, Rover.
I don't believe they ever manufactured in North America, but I'm doing this from memory. I believe they were all imported from England.
The company is currently MG-Rover. The cars are not imported into North America. MG powered Lolas run at Le Mans & in the ALMS.
