a slipping clutch burning smell is quite abit different than a throw out bearing grease burning smell.... can you tell the difference? my guess is if the clutch is holding then the bearing is to blame, sometimes if you got lube on the flywheel or clutch it can take a while to burn it off... I have had a starion with simular issue, come to find out the cylinder head was leaking oil under boost and would drip directly on the bellhousing and get to the clutch... make sure your motor is not a pig.
