Sounds like it probably has something to do with your brakes. If it was your wheel bearings going out they would constently be making noise. You best bet would be to take apart your brake assembly in the rear (i.e. brake rotors and pads, leave the shoes on). Pretty much the brake pads and shoes will tell the whole story. If the pads are too low and grinding metal to metal or just grinding the indicator tab you will have a scored up rotor. If the Brake shoesare worn unevenly between the primary and secondary shoe, that typically means incorrect adjustment of warped inside drum. If all of these things look right the only other thing I can suggest is to check out the rotors baffle plate. If it is bent even a little it can rub the top of the rotor causing a wierd grinding noise. Hope this helps good luck.
