sure the drivers have fun doing both.. but do you want to be a 'ice dancer' or a speed skater?

Just because it's not what
you want to do, doesn't mean it's dumb.
If you wanna drive grip and go fast, then go do that and have fun. We don't go drifting because we want to go fast. We drift because it's fun and that's what
we want to do.
Sliding a car around a corner may not be a fast way around a corner, but it is still a form of performance driving.
If that is your argument as to why drifting is dumb, it's not very strong.
