I've always used 0ga w/ a 150amp breaker for batery power and ground, 4ga for engine grounds. Most CCA wire can support a 250amp load while O2 free copper is like x3 the price and supports close to 400amps.
Both are rated substantially more than what the factory or even quest alternator can produce and the starter will draw. I've never hard an issue with this setup.
