The RB series was a 18 year old design, by automotive standards thats like a 90 year old man. Nismo's engine of choice has been the VQ series since the beginning of this century. The 2004-2005 JGTC winning R34 GTR was powered by a VQDETT. The 3.5 VQ has already been tuned here in the States to a mind bending 1800HP!! The VQ38DETT sounds like a monster in its own right. Hell the G37 engine aka VQ37DE is a monster in the NA HP department coming in at 330 HP.
The VQ series is not to be scoffed at in any way shape or form!

P.S. the curb weight of that GTR is expected considering its 6 cylinder AWD car. 3850LBs is the converted number. With 500 HP with room to tune higher the car will still be a monster at that weight and given the fact that it lapped Nurmburgring at 1 second faster than a GT2 Carerra pretty much means its badass even at that weight.
