I had the same issue, I just jumped the battery to the fuel sending unit in the trunk, (My battery was relocated in the swap).

Did you ever get any further resolution as to a permanent solution, or did you maintain the hardwire setup? I don't really feel like installing a master switch in the car unless I have to or it's going to be ridiculously expensive o fix it.
