Japan is not the center of the automotive universe. I don't know why people on the internet don't realize that. It is a point - just like any other. Beyond that, it is a far cry from making the "best" car in any field. Just like Japan doesn't make the "best" of much of anything. Cheap and mass-marketed, yes. "Best" - NO. And "craftsmanship"? The NSX is THE most vanilla of the performance cars. Blandness does not equal craftsmanship.
If you want efficiency, I imagine a European diesel is on your list, as far as passanger cars go.
