VG's are for poor people and people who just really like doing something with outdated technology. That's why i play with em. They have terrible harmonics. Just food for thought. It's some money to put a vg30de crank into a single cam block too. Just to take advantage of using a GOOD harmonic balancer. VG30e's are notorious for spinning bearings at higher power levels. I'm convinced the oiling system is up to par with a shimmed pump or turbo z31 pump but i went as far to have my rotating assembly fully balanced and crank micropolished/recut and STILL might fuck it all up. There's some vg30dett's making 600-700whp BOOSTED daily driven. Never once have been cracked open for "building".
If you want to enjoy your car and drive it now and keep your ka it's mad easy to just throw a t28 on it, some injectors, management and squeeze about 250ish out of it. More has been made internally stock but isn't often recommended. Dont be intimidated by turbocharging. Lots of people have have broken 5 year mark on simple ka-t setups without breaking anything.
As long as you keep this enjoyable for you it shouldn't be difficult. Dont bite off more you can chew. Stick to what you know and build onto it with things you dont and you will have way more fun. VQ and LS swaps have prefab swap kits and a host of writeups available to aid you. People can throw the originality card up all day but in the end you just can't mess with the tried and true setups that work most of the time......
