I'm just going to look at it like this. IF you had nothing to hide then you would have simply explained the circumstances better and nobody would have been bent out of shape. Since you DID take so much offense and apparently actually DID get in trouble for doing what you did regarding the engine I'll make the educated guess that you DID actually do something wrong.
