s13 wire tuck+fuse & relay boxes re-location
anyone done it? im currently doing this and somewhat stuck where to mount my fuse panels & relays!!! any other ideas would be great....
my ideas: passenger floor beneath glove box inside glove box behind the deck but too little room heres some pics: http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/4103/dsc04398a.jpg heres where i re-located my ignition coil http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/1383/dsc04426e.jpg http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/3731/dsc04427z.jpg engine harness is done! http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/2366/dsc04424c.jpg battery plate is a bitch to get out! http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/4141/dsc04620l.jpg http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/6861/dsc04611w.jpg |
relocating the fuse boxes and battery make the engine bay look a hell of a lot cleaner, heres a pic of mine
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...13/llll010.jpg just relocate everything under the passanger side dash behind the glovebox. |
Next time do alittle searching.... There's a post dedicated strictly to this topic...
And why didn't you just upgrade to an S14 distributor? That would've done away with the external coil and made your setup that much easier/cleaner. |
that looks good! do you have to extend the wiring harnesses for that?
|

never thought about the s14 distributor! what would i need? thnx |

i tried hiding the fuseboxes and failed miserably.
i bought a entire enginebay harness + fuseboxes because of this. i don't see where you can relocate the boxes to.. if you take the entire harness from the SMJ to the fusebox, it's literally 5-6ft long. even if you cut and solder all those connections.. it's still gonna be pretty damn long. then there's wires that split off into two different sections and crap.. it's just really annoying to do the boxes. you should just put them under the battery tray and waterproof it or something. that'd be a good location to relocate the fusebox and for the relay box, do it the same on the drivers side. |

im doing the same to my car once i get some money and time..

lookin good, what is the purpose of this car? track, show, street?
|
and btw, you seem like your pretty far along, but it helps to pull the whole harness to wrap the wires, i wouldn't tr to do it while the harness is still installed.

mine is for s14 fusebox relocation... not s13... S13 has MULTIPLE fuse boxes scattered throughout the chassis. |
cool to see this. tried it on mine and failed badly.

Yea i just put my fuse box in my glove box. I messed up somewhere though cuz everything works but my tail lights... kinda bummed but i never drive on the streets nor at night so I havent fixed it yet.
|
I admire your determination!
|
|
quite interesting with the fusebox setup, but again everything on the s13 seems different. But why the 80amp fuse bridge between the two boxes?

Lol I chuckle at these threads, because most of them crash and burn. HPIPro's legit though.
When I do standalone wiring, I start with the systems I want, and work backwards - towards the fuse box, to the battery. I used a bunch of OEM wire when I did my S14, but pulled absolutely everything out first, and just put back in what I needed - much easier to check your work this way, and you get to use all the OEM connectors if you're smart. I'll be doing a standalone harness Thursday for Ernie @ DTC ("Pinky" build), I'll try and take some pics. 12 Fuses is PLENTY, btw. |

i did a mild tuck on my 89 s13 when i put the motor back in.. since I have the Silvia front end i had lots of extra room so we relocated the driver side fuse box under the front fender and the passenger side one we tucked up in the corner i will get some pics up for yea tomorrow
|
god, i just look at that and get a headache. Can't wait to see how this turns out, I'll try and learn from your mistakes (if you make any).
|
LOL i know right, I work with electrical aspects of cars too and Im just like WTF! I want to do a battery relocation in my S13 and a wire tuck but looks im in deff gunna need some more experience for this or someone who deff knows what their doing lol.
|
I keep checking these threads just to see what the "general level of interest" is on this stuff.
As I'm doing my RB25 rebuild/swap, I'm doing a full tuck on the upper harness (already removed all the wires/box/etc from the engine bay) and using a Tyco Mil-Spec bulkhead connector to separate engine-bay from interior halves. I've found that only 33 wires need to actually pass through the firewall :) As far as the interior, I've got a 10-circuit fusebox handling my Accessories and a 6-circuit taking care of Ignition-switched duties, all hiding out under my passenger airbag. On the back side of that plate is the relay logic for push-button start and my fuel pump/fan relays. The car has no body harness, only 12 or so wires running back through the car for tail lights/fuel pump/stereo. Pics in a couple days. |
almost done with mine.....
|
heres some update.....cant finish cause im waiting for techflex wire sleeves from partexpress.com shipping is way too slow!!!grrrr
tested out electronics everything seems to be workin....music was bumpin...lights...etc.. heres more pics::: http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/6176/dsc04716fil.jpg http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/9080/dsc04721.jpg http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/290/dsc04728bez.jpg http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/3539/dsc04731xzv.jpg |
To many wires for me. i would have a anxiety attack.
|
so i installed my dcc took me a while to figure out what i did wrong. tips: dont unplug the blue relay, only unplug the black relay!
also tested my s13 digital cluster...well no luck getting the mph....it did once turn on then slowly faded but its gone.... test fitted the obx header fits awesome w/o egr n secondary air! |
damn lookin good.. wish i had time to do it on mine.. i think imma have to do it the way you did.. looks like you save alot of money reusing plugs .. milspec is to rich for my pocket right now

I should be finishing my upper and lower RB25 engine harnesses this week, using mil-spec circular connectors and Maringo power connectors, all wrapped in Techflex sleeve. Spent way too much money lol, but hopefully will be bomb. The rest of the car just needs to be wrapped/heat shrinked (got lazy and didn't want to de-pin all the connectors).
|
ahahahah down with de-pinning connectors lol.

i disassembled my relay box since i only used a couple out of it and just put them behind the radio where the other relays were located. good hiding spot , they dont really need to be accessible. i minimized my fuse panel and just tucked everything away all nice and pretty. kind of wish i would have put my fusebox in my center console like my friends car , but didnt want to re run my harness AGAIN. idk i may get bored someday and move it ? i cut a bunch of the wrong wires at some point and had all kinds of crazy mishaps , but it all is good now :) |

:) learned the hard way.
benefits : knowing every wire and what and where it goes to by heart. |
lol i wish i had the patience to do all this... maybe someday. when im really bored. but then i might not be bored the next day... hmm. decisions decisions. i unno, id probably get lost half way through anyway

i didnt use the wiring diagrams that much but only wires i miss labeled just to make sure it goes where is suppose to go. even removed wires for cruise control, rear wiper..etc |

the 1st one is jus regular led come in variety of colors 2nd are the high power smd's only come in blue or white tips: only use white led for the middle one cause buttons have blue n red coating....if you use red or blue its gonna be dim depends wat color is use. no modding needed they fit perfect...only thing is removing them is a b**tch like when the polarities are backward cause this are polarized leds/smds lmk if ya got any ?? oh get the 3mm |
engine fired rite up 1st start....freakin amazing...havent heard it roarrrr for months...

nice work my friend. that looks sooo clean:) and the DCC and your cluster looks bitchin. i wish i had the patience and the cash to do all that.. i dont. and i dont have another car anyway. downtime is no good at the moment :P congrats on the great work mann

I have a couple questions for the OP, since im in the middle of my full tuck right now aswell. Other then that it looks good. Im tucking the P/s resi up by the clutch resi, aswell as getting an inline fuel filter to clean up the lines from the fuel rail going on top of the manifold to the filter and tucking it behind the manifold on the firewall.
1. when you installed the dcs, did you use all the sensors and b/s or did you wire it into the factory usdm harness? (i guess it would be like having the digital system just without the auto climate controll?) 2. did you think about keeping the 2 fuse boxes before you just eliminated them and relocated everything to the glove box? ....me and a friend have found that the fuse boxes themselves can stay where they are just by flipping them upside down and putting them on the underside of the metal from where there at from the factory locations. Now that im tupped though im going to have to make a custom mounting slot on my passenger side but my drivers side will still use that slot from the factory which the fuse boxes use to keep them in place. of course i will have to secure the lids since they will be mounted completely upside down now but it should work out fine. I just got my car back to my garage but i can get pictures of what im talking about and how im going to make mine work if you need an example. Im still a bit far away from completing it but its coming along. Also keep in mind the only way someone could possibly pull off the tuck using the same spots for the fuse box i'am using is if they are N/A or have a v mount intercooler setup, because all the other ways i could think of you have to cut holes in the metal where i would be mounting my fuse boxes. |

Im about to make some good progress on my tuck this week Just to show you the bay and what im working with so far heres a look:
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/DSC01070.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...AAMMMMNNNN.jpg |
Great Thread!!!
|
this pic isn't a great example, but i relocated my entire harness and fuseboxes into my glovebox. now the only wires that are in the bay are my headlight harnesses and engine wiring. now i have a crate overflowing with wire i cut out.
i need to redo it cleaner and more "baller". http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...e/DSC_0199.jpg |
O know tjis is kinda taking it back a bit but do you think the NEO4's will work in the DCC? Im just wondering because I was hoping for more options than white and blue, but I will go white if I have to.

Daym dude that looks sick! You have to tell me your secret. How do you keep track of all the little screws and where everything goes?! I was thinking of getting like little platic bags and labeling everything. Or taking alot of pictures in case I forget where something goes or how it was hooked up previously. I envy you, man. Good job, really.
:bowrofl: |

thanks bud! |
great thread and taking time to help other people out...good stuff
your tuck is incredible, if my chassis wasnt a rustbucket you would have motivated me to undertake this task with this thread. now you may have motivated me to start looking for a clean coupe shell to do this in, im tired of the hatch... |
Dam this confuses me so much. I dont understand how your supposed to keep track of every wire. So.... if im doing a track build. where i wont need any of the smog equipment.. or AC, or anything that makes the car more confurtable.. can i take alot of the sensors off ?? im still trying ti figure this all out.
