BMW CELIS Lights
 

So I've been around a lot of BMWs and I never really noticed how special some of the newer tail lights are (E39/E60).

They are called Celis lights in BMW town, which I guess is the company that makes them.

Am I to assume that that is a curved piece of optic tube with LEDs shining into it, and the scores in the optic are what diffuse the light? My other assumption is that they are not CCFLs, because that is cheap ass shit. I'm really curious how these work, does anyone know anything more? I want to take one apart, I should have kept the broken one from when my dad's M5 got rear-ended.

I think they are using oled's.

They look like diffused plastic rods with LED on either end.

Would look pretty dope on some S14 or S13 coupe tails.

CELIS = CEntral LIghting System. Most, if not all BMW lights are made by Hella.

Indeed, I want something similar for my E36 M3. It looks so dated.

By central does this mean that they are lighting from the back and moving it all to where it needs to be with creative molding?

No, as far as I know angel eyes are CCFL's. CELIS are LED, lit from the middle of the lens and diffused towards the outer edges. The trick is the diffusers.
