If there was a cure for aids
 

so i been hearing more and more about "we gotta find a cure for aids" in the media.. im thinking, if they ever find a cure for aids, do you think people will start to get more promiscuous? our society is bad enough already that the divorce rate is soo high and our partners face temptations all the time. Im old school morals and i dont believe in that. So what you guys think?

im pretty sure people would abuse it...atleast those who could afford buying said cure...

watch the porn industry blow up, next thing you know, they got career colleges for the growing field lol

Aids would just be another curable STD. It wouldn't be aids anymore. I don't think it would change people at all.

nah porn is becoming more and more available throught the web...remember there are other STDs that dont have a cure yet also

even if there was a cure, no one would be able to afford it. I get the feeling they would probably try and Milk it for as long as possible.

Yeah, herpes and other std's would still be a problem.
even if there's a cure/treatment, there's still the cost & inconvenience of treatment.
Don't think it's going to change how promiscious ppl are overall.

Infact, I don't think promiscuity will be affected period.
Ppl who want to live that lifestyle will do so regardless.
It's just a matter of whther or not they use protection & take other measures.

Now, if you have the cure for all STD's, hassle free,
I can see an increase of ppl more inclined to do away with protection entirely.

nothing would change even if there was a cure for aids.. the cure would be too expensive for the people who has aids to begin with, so it wont effect the millions of people who has it - most people with aids arent rich, arent educated, most likely druggies, whores, etc, which causes them to get it in the first place.

There was no mention about the actual cost & availability of the said cure.
It could be a free vaccine offered by the govenment.
There could be a generic version of the drug offered at discount.

There's an endless list of hypothetical circumstances in such an open ended scenario.

some people say there is a cure it just is more money if they can make you buy pills youre whole life. and most people dont wear protection now as it is evryone skinniey dips now days

It would most probably be more profitable,
if the cure consisted of an ongoing treatment (vs a 1-time vaccine or cure).

I also think that if profiteering were involved,
selling it at a price more ppl could afford would get higher overall profits.
the sweet spot between volume & profit margin would depend on the cost of producing the said medication.

Say you offer it at $1,000, and even offer credit.
A lot of ppl (hundred of thousands, if not millions) would be lining up to buy this.
this risk is more conservative, as you're relying a wider customer pool.

Say in another scenario you sell it for 1 Million Dollars!!
You'll be lucky if you even see 1,000 rich dudes with AIDS to buy this.
Smaller, riskier customer base.

I think it'll be the same if they do find a cure (for anything) b/c you can still get kids if you don't wrap and that's mainly what people are worried about.

I doubt people would be much more promiscuous if there were a better treatment for HIV. Tons of people already get it, so clearly it isn't too much of a deterrent. Current treatment is actually pretty effective. Most people can live a long time on HAART. But as alluded to earlier, these drugs are not cheap. A researcher at my undergrad developed a drug that was really only different enough from a current one to dodge the patent, and him and the school got about $500 million in royalties for sale of the drug. Not even a really innovative drug...this is like a quality knockoff.

HIV is a hell of a virus. People with AIDS are so immunocompromised that HIV basically changed the subspecialty of Infectious Disease completely- infections that were vanishingly rare before are now fairly common thanks to the army of folks with essentially no immune system walking around out there. A lot of them are miserable infections too...an HIV vaccine would alleviate a TON of human suffering.

That title is wrong. Magic Johnson does not have AIDS, he has HIV. There is a difference. I went to an HIV/AIDS awareness conference that he held. There he spoke of how the medications that he constantly takes have kept the HIV in his system at a dormant state but it is not "cured", he will always have it.

Don't stick your penis into something unless you know exactly what's in there.
