(Pic heavy) Saving a 200SX S13
Hi. Im pretty new here, but i want to share my history and my build with you.
About a year ago, i bought a Nissan 200SX S13 that was taken totally apart. previously ive had 3 other S13s, so i saw this as a great project. As it was taken apart, i could see all the rust it had and it made it easier for me to actually make the decision to buy it or not. But luckely, im going all in on this build. Ill do as much as i can myself, and get help from my friends. Anyway. So i handed it over to a local company to get it cleaned and painted. I was lucky that my boss agreed to have the car at my workplace for some time (I work as a warehouse supervisor, so i was able to find an unused corner where i could park the car) https://billeder.bazoom.dk/biler/alb...13-ca18det.jpg As a lot of other people, i wanted to go for the TypeX bodykit, so i ordered a komplete set from JDMBodyshop in poland. https://billeder.bazoom.dk/biler/alb...13-ca18det.jpg https://billeder.bazoom.dk/biler/alb...13-ca18det.jpg I also bought a set of Japan Racing JR7 17x8 ET35 as they look fantastic with the TypeX kit. https://billeder.bazoom.dk/biler/alb...13-ca18det.jpg After a lot of looking around on the car i found more rust. so the best thing to do would be to cut it out and remove it. This means my front fenders have to go and the same with the rear ones. This gave me and excuse to buy wider fenders. I wanted to go for a bronze/copper color, but they didnt have any i liked. My works neighbour makes airtools. So after i talked a bit with the CEO (who also loves cars) he came over with a small box filled with goodies. So now i can sodablast stuff. So i ordered a roof spoiler and a 326 Power Wing from JDMbodyshop where the rest of the fibreglass is from. Unfortunally the 326 spoiler was in so bad condition when it arrived, i had to scrap it. The same with the overfenders as the fitment was so bad we could not get it to fit properly. I asked him if i should being some tools. Only thing he replied: If you are coming before 11, bring beer. (Yes, im from Denmark and Carlsberg is danish) Anyway. My friend and i started to remove all of the sound deadening. I had a Japspeed V2 catback system laying around, but ive always hated the huge 4.5"muffler. Especially when the car would be really low, it would get cought on everything. So i had to find a solution. I wanted to find a dual exhaust just like the original one, but with better flow. So after searching all over the internetz, i found a danish shop selling Xforce Varex. So ofc i ordered one right away. The company emailed me stating the delivery time would be 12 weeks! So i had to wait. But boy, it was worth it! One of them is just black for the enginebay and the interior. The other 2 i won't say just yet. Thanks for the kind words. But i cannot take the credit. Most of this work is done by my friends. Its really good to have friends with skills like this. I only spend money and help where i can ;)
Anyway, as this car wasnt born with A/C, i had to install it. This meant i have to find all the pieces. My friend told me last week that him and another buddy will do some metal work on the car. So had to come by and see how its going. I ordered a new straight from Nissan here in Denmark so it could be replaced. But the previous owner did some "rustwork" where the battery used to be. something like a 17x9 -5 up front and 18x10.5 +12 in the rear should fit great. |

I think its time for a small update.
The enginebay is 95% ready for paint. I bought a small bundle of random parts for cheap. I only needed a engine harness, but i took it all. What you all propably havent noticed is that almost everything is recorded. So far i have none less that 218gb of pure video and counting :D One of the things i was missing for my Gopro, was a gimbal, so after an evening on eBay, i found this one: https://billeder.bazoom.dk/biler/alb...13-ca18det.jpg It was cheap, but it works perfectly. I still need a gimbal for my Sony A6300. But that has to wait. I also received 6 Vband clamps for the exhaust so i can remove every part independent. https://billeder.bazoom.dk/biler/alb...13-ca18det.jpg I also received 5 squaremeters of 200g Carbonfiber so i can start playing around with that. As i only had some old intercoolerpiping, i desided to try and wrap these with the carbon fiber. This is the first time i tried something like that, and it ended horrible. or, actually im not done yet. But i learned a lot of do's and dont's. First of i painted the piping black as the carbonfiber cloth is a bit see-through. Then i layed a layer of epoxy. This was the first mistake as the cloth was sliding around and made a lot of airbubles underneath. I had to wait untill it get tacky and then put down the cloth. Then i put down another layer of epoxy. And its still in a cold warehouse with around 10 degrees celsius. https://billeder.bazoom.dk/biler/alb...13-ca18det.jpg Again. because of the cold, the epoxy wouldnt harden as fast as i would like it to, and then it would just run. So theres a lot of sanding to remove the runs. https://billeder.bazoom.dk/biler/alb...13-ca18det.jpg And because its piping, and not something simple as a flat panel im carbonwrapping, i have to twist and turn it multiple times to get an even coat of epoxy. But again. And the mailman delivered some studs for the turbo and elbow. They are 38mm M8 x 1.25 with locknuts. Even though im gonna go with Nordlock washers also. |
Wow damn that is pricey over there haha. Even over here in the states the price of them in the last year has skyrocketed. Sadly cause every day someone is either crashing one drifting or leaving it outside to rot away.
But that isn't too bad for your first time wrapping with c/f. Plus it looks awesome on intercooler piping. I don't think I have even seen anyone do that before. Hats off that is badass! |
Well. Christmas have been pretty crazy for me. So havent had time to do any car related.
But I think its about time to make an update, even though its pretty small and not showing anything special. First off... My friends found some more rust holes in the car. And as everybody knows, a small rusthole becomes big pretty fast! Another weekend in the garage passed.
This time there was a LOT of visible progress! 2 weeks ago the car was primed. So this weekend we went crazy with scuffing the primer and throwing some black paint on it. As you can see on the pictures. its a pretty decent job taken in consideration that it was done in a garage. So another weekend passed and we got a bit more progress on the car.
But first we had to clean the garage a bit. I borrowed some floorcleaning chemicals from work. And "accidentally" dropped a bit of it undeluted on the floor. Looking good. My crazy self would have cleaned the Wire loom, AC box, vents and replaced the foam gaskets so there are no air leaks when the blower is on.

I run out of time that weekend, but the plan is to tidy up the loom and wrap it with some fabric-tape so it wouldnt rattle. And we did actually replace all the foam gaskets. Unfortunally i didnt take any pictures of it. its on purpose that we didnt clean the AC and vents. The plan is to fix the widebody and bodykit in the near future, so theres gonna be a lot of dust all over the car. So cleaning it now, would just be double work :D |

Well... Finally i got the time to work a bit on the S13.
Unfortunally we didnt have a lot of progress as we figured out we need to repaint some of the enginebay. The reason for this is that it was damaged in the right front corner. This destroyed the right headlight. So we welded it and painted without being able to testfit the headlight - Rookie mistake, i know. So now the headlight sits to high and we cant get it flush with the hood and fender. But good news. We did clean up the engineblock and gave it a bit of paint. And ofc. i bought a lot of random parts. i even found a set of cheap replica Bride seats. I know its replica. But with replica i wont be sad when i spill stuff om them. Anyway. Unfortunally i dont have that many updates. This is because of some stress related health issues and the fact that my company no longer allows me to do private work at the workplace. But luckily my wife and i are moving to a house with a small shed where i can do all my funny business. I ordered a metal slam panel on croooober, but didnt like the raw metal look. So i wrapped it in some leftover carbon fiber. In the start i wanted to integrate some 52mm holes for gauges, but figured that it would be to 2005. So i desided just to flock it. I went on ebay and ordered a complete flocking kit and went crazy. This was a BIG mistake! The "glue" was some paint that dried so fast that 3 people couldnt put it on properly, so we had to put it on over 3 days - and it looks like shit. Another really bad thing about the car - we have to install a new radiator core support as mine is bend more than we thought. I ordered and paid it 2 month ago, and hopefully it will arrive in the end of this month. But i received my Work Euroline DH wheels! This have been hell. The danish postal service is extremely bad. Dont know anything about customer service. The story is kinda funny though. I ordered the wheels from Crooober in Japan with cheapest shipping (about 2 months of shipping) It arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark. The danish postal service returned the wheels to japan because they were to heavy. Didnt even give me the opportunity to drive 300km to pick them up myself. And they were returned by air. A few days after i was contacted by Crooober customerservice telling me that the wheels have been returned and suggested to ship my 4 wheels in 4 individually packed boxes. I agreed and waited another 1½-2 months. All 4 wheels arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark and was there untill i paid the import charges. This was done instantly. The 2 first wheels was delivered at my work where they were left together with some trash and my colleague was very close to throw them out. I contacted the postalservice and said i have never received anything, and the day after the deliveryman came by and asked if we didnt find the wheels, I told him that we had the wheels there the whole time, but i just wanted to make it perfectly clear for him that NEVER leave packages without a signature at a company. Wheel number 3 came a few days later and it was signed for. But wheel number 4... Ohh boy... Let me repeat that the danish postalservice have the WORST customerservice ever! I wrote to them telling that i can see the package havent been released from customs. They said it was because i havent paid the import fees - i had, and had proof of this. They couldnt help and told me to call their customerservice. I called the customerservice, waited around 30 minutes and because they dont have access to the import-information. I was told to call another number. This was a direct line and it only took 5 minutes. Here i was told to send the receipt of the import fee to the same mail-address as i wrote to in the start... After a week i called again, and they couldnt find the fucking package!!! Time for another update.
I had a single day where i went to look at the car. This time i had to do something different. My friend who are creating the oilpan for me, asked me if i can figure out how much space there is for a intake and exhaust manifold as he would like to design these. So i had to figure out how to get these measurements. The car is 360km away from him, so its not possible for him to go and do the measurements himself. After a LOT of research, i found a solution. My friend is a technical designer among other things, so if i could create the enginebay digitally, he can work with that. Instead i wanted to create a Carbon face to make it a bit more exclusive. The face will be made of only 2 layers of carbonfiber cloth - wich means its only around 0.4mm thick! The rear valances have to be extended around 2-11mm to follow the OEM lines and the right overfender had to be shortened 2mm in the end. Was that scanned with an xbox Kinnect? Ive had some success with that in the past. keep us posted with the CAD screenshots.

I have a spare instrument cluster, so i wanted to install my Defi Advance ZD instead of the rpm. But after some looking around, i noticed its not possible as i couldnt access the bottoms. So i wanted to do something else. Ive previous been working with carbonfiber, i figured it could be cool to have inside the instrument cluster. I started with a small piece of carbon i had laying around. So... Im sure that im not the only one going crazy in this lockdown.
I was supposed to start in an aviation-related company just before all this happend, so it has been postponed to an unknown date. This is giving me WAY to much time on my hands. Its good but its also bad! So i went to look at a another S13. The car is without danish tax as its been importet from UK about 10 years ago. It since have been sitting in a barn, so we can call this a barnfind :) The engine was build by JAPengines.co.uk and afaik it have Wiseco pistons and some other goodies. The car itself have very little rust, but somebody thought it would be funny to airbrush the whole freaking car!!! On top of that, it have some very 2000's bodykit that i have no idea what is :D To top it off, the price for this car is... and hold on! 3100euros or 3300USD... Im still thinking about buying it and get it back together. Im sorry! I havent updated this thread in a long time.
The main reasons are that the car is located 3 hours drive away from me, and i have another car that takes a lot of my time. Mainly because its a lot closer to me than this one. Then i have to clean the whole underside so i can give it some proper protection so it will last in Denmark. I also used the TypeX bodykit on the other S13 as its a RHD, and its a lot more fitting when im going to a TypeX look-a-like. So this means im on the lookout for an agressive kit for this car. Im 90% sure itll be some Originlabo Racing line. But time will tell ;) Anyway, this is just a small update. Ill be back with more when the car gets back. Im thinking about doing some youtube videos on putting it back together. But are people interested in that? |
