secession:
Well, No one wants to talk about this. It seems the mere mention sends people into panic and severely distorts their ability to have a civilized rational discussion about it.
Personally I say its like an abusive relationship, or a relationship at all for that matter: if the person wants out...let them the fuck out. Why try to kidnap someone and make them unhappy. Everyone seems to think that it will automatically cause anarchy and social collapse of EVERYTHING. I say it will bring about new ideals, good or bad. New markets, new ways of thinking etc. I think most people are tired of the old money prudes that have been in power way too long. Their way of thinking is rapidly, if not already, becoming an archaic way of thinking. Discuss |
How do I edit the tittle. Its supposed to say Succession/Succeeding
|
Lincoln himself said, "This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it."
I think secession isn't the right way to go about it, and it will never happen. Nothing will ever happen to get the American people off their lazy asses and actually caring about freedom. We gave up freedom for convenience back in the early part of the 20th century and nothing will turn us back. |

Anyway, a satirical response floating around Facebook right now: https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...49508132_n.jpg As a resident of one of the states with a petition up, I HIGHLY doubt many people with good reason to have thought this through are behind this. |
This wont happen.
This should not happen. This is a bad idea. |
didnt the right criticize the left for talking about to moving to Canada if McCain was elected or bush for that matter? yet when the left wins the office they cry succession. It really shows the lack of intelligence and maturity in some of the people in our country. Its like a kid getting mad and taking his ball and going home when he loses a game. Suck it up and try again in 4 years, quite making everyone in the party look like hicks.

Lets get back to the real issues - like why has the socialist government taken down the most important petition ever! WHY CAN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NOT PUNCH GROVER NORQUIST SQUARE IN THE NUTS!!! I demand answers... Petition To Punch Grover Norquist In Dick Removed From White House Petition Site |

I'm from Texas and the state votes on this shit all the time. You always hear about this shit when a Democrat is in office. In the past 10 years Texas has not even balanced its own budget without slashing school budgets, laying off state employees, or taking stimulus money and lying about it. There is a big segment of the state that believes if it's not white, it's not right. Can you imagine that quarter of the state its illegal to have alcohol. The religious right has control of the state and anyone who threatens their control,is considered not American. They did the same thing with President Clinton. Whats said is the attack ads on Anne Richard are second female governor, some ads basically said she didn't know her place. Can you imagine the ads ran against any one of color. NOT ALL STATES, share such a radical agenda as Texas. As an active duty military member, I'm frustrated with the federal government. From the lack of raising revenue which pays my salary and buys the equipment needed to rage war, to the lack of infrastructure throughout this country. Does this mean I need to sign a petition to succeed, HELL NO!

if Texas did secede, im betting it would be a narco state in a few years. the Cartels would just take over.

Texas will turn Blue (Democratic) before it secedes. The Latino vote will only get stronger there and then the Republicans will be really screwed considering Dems have Cali, NY and at some point, Texas.

Oh, that right, we live by a set of rules and laws. What about Abdulrahman al-Aulaqi, Awlaki's son, who was killed in a separate strike two weeks latter, he was only 16 years old. You realize there has been no one executed in America under the age of 23 since 1950 and only 22 people since then have been sentenced to death for crimes committed under the age of 18. Only one of them was 16 years old at the time and had 12 years of appeals. So yes, these are bad people... they say and do bad things. But they still are American citizens who where killed exclusively by the will of the president. Since when did we throw away the moratorium on banning assassinations? Why not just kill Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? |

Lol, i say let these few people in these "sussion" states decide the fate of their fellow statesmen, and leave our fine union. Wouldn't be a matter of time before they realize the grave mistake made and more than likely either burn, or somehow rejoin the union under worse than comfortable circumstances.... But my true opinion. How sick and twisted are some people. In the most simplest regards, it truly is a bunch of butt-hurt folks crying that obama is president, so much so, that they think they should decide the fate of everyone in their state with some lame ass petition. Shame on them...Im assuming when i say this, but they try so hard to cry about something, when what they should be doing, is initiating change at the levels change can happen at....even if its something i dis-agree with personally, i would (esp if i was a member of said state) respect a person more for truly following their goal/passion/desire with utmost and strategic urgency, than some hick ass fool complaining that the president is black...and their lambo is blue.. And on the quoted posters comments...I agree. They are already borderline mexico. Without the US government support, texas would fall within a year to drug cartels.... |

I'm going to start a petition to mother nature asking her to have an earthquake large enough for California to break off from the rest of the United States of America, effectively "susseeding" us from the union.

Can anyone on Zilvia properly spell "secede" or "secession" as it relates to this topic?
Just because spellcheck doesn't light your word on fire doesn't mean that you've selected the proper word. Wise quotes and philosophies are only applicable when you spell things correctly, and make use of proper grammar. This will remain key to your being taken seriously, and "well this is the internet and not an English class" goes out the window when you approach a subject like this one. Quote:
Yes, those types are HILARIOUS! The power of being white and angry only works in America, and the fact that Mitt Romney is only dropping in to continue to be a sore loser with stupid-fuck quotes to ignore that he was his own biggest problem shows us why. |

if this were to ever happen the unitied states would fund these cartels with money weapons and soldiers to take over texas then, then create an offensive against the cartels kill them off and take texas over and have it under u.s control again. but yea i agree with the texas dude "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."-Isoroku Yamamoto all that bullshit in mexico makes me sad, all the cartels killing woman, children. for those of you who ever go to mexico not all the the people are like this, there not all killers most of them are just hard working people trying to get by. the cartels make it impossible to even walk down the street with your kids. the mexican goverment didnt care and would just sweep it under the rug, but now it has gotten beyond there control. |

Well, I see this has kind of taken off.
You guys just sight Texas, but there are almost 20 or 30 states that are a couple thousand votes from having a true legal petition that congress/U.S. has to address. Also, I do not assume it is all because of the presidential election. A lot of people feel its gone to crap slowly over time. Some of you are looking at this how I imagine some people look at moving to a "third world" country or even second: Yeah it's no U.S. by any means, But in their eyes they do awesome with what they have. There may be no internet (and even then some places do have it), there may be no "high end" TV shows, and there may be no Pristine roads that cost billions of dollars to maintain. But humans have survived without all that stuff for ages. I mean look where society is going because of that stuff...But I digress, that's a whole nother thread. I agree with this all the way though. The correct way of going about things is to do what white people have done for centuries. When the home country sucks to much, get together and take over some shitty third world country.

^^ Not so much! The U.S. wanted a jump off, a strategic base in the Middle East with plenty of oil. Our government thought taking out the dictator would help usher in a new pro American government. These strategic blunders lead to civil war and massive civilian deaths. This is why France and other countries tried to persecute Bush and Cheney on war crimes. The U.S. death toll is 4,287 not to include the traumatic amputees and mental health.
So many people call for secession and dont even understand the true Ramifications! Secession, will equal bloodshed are you willing to die for the right to tell a Democratic president to fuck off!! The Cost Of Seceding From The United States |

If they would have marched on Washington right then and there.....it would be a different U.S. This time they have the Hispanics/Mexicans to help them. Few fact checks. The Confederacy was built up from the ranks of the Democrats. The majority of profesional US Military officers sided with the Southern revolt, this was part of their initial success, the Armies of the Union where being lead by incompetent government appointees. It really came down to an issue of states rights, with the primary concern being the the right to determine whether they are a free state or not. Another underlying issue was the tarifs and taxes at the time and redistributing that money. Southern states felt they where paying heavy taxes for their products and that money was then going to the more populous northern states. The reason the South remains poor today is the rapid expansion of northern industrialization and the crucial reconstruction period after the civil war. They never caught up, not to mention the almost 100 year domination of Democrate party control. |

Democrats were the conservatives back then. When was this 100yr span? |
Hey Daniel. How them apples taste?
You should have paid more attention in history class. And as I just said: where do you think the majority of the U.S. fighting forces come from? |
So, hypothetically if these states were to "part", who is going to take care of their natural disaster funding? I'm not trying to stir anything up, but are people really thinking about certain consequences regarding this. Thats like Puerto Rico wants to become a US state, is everyone in favor of this or against this? Sorry if that part goes alittle off topic.

I guess it's really hard for you guys to understand my wit and humor through the internet. Carry on into the bold bright future of the United States of America gentlemen.
*salutes you guys* |
Daniel: I apologize if you were truly being funny. This IS zilvia and all, so ya never know.
@Nismocoupe: these are the kinds of questions Im curious about as well and half of what spurred me to start this thread. Everyone gets caught up in the North vs South. Save for a small group of people; I think the rest of the U.S. is over THAT part. Again, I dont think it should/would have to end up in another civil war. It could be a clean break.... |
I've lost all hope for the people on zilvia, and in society in general. So allow ME to apologize for not taking your original post about "Susseeding" seriously.

I'm not one to point fingers, but usually when you have a war, you kick the crap out of the other guy and take everything he has. Its called 'the spoils of war'. I never supported the idea of going into Iraq, but hell, you guys have to benefit somehow. Take the oil, piss off some people, setup a western world leader (being they all want to be westernised anyway, watch vice network) whatever, I still find it hilarious how many internal problems you guys have. Bullshit unions butting heads with outsourcing capitalists that completely shut down the economy... and it started in the late 70s. You guys need a civil war to make a few laws disappear so the little guy can thrive again without being controlled by law/union/global influence |
This thread was fun to come back and re-read

We should let them.
SC receives $7 in federal aid for every $1 they put in via taxes. If they received even 20% less in aid their state economy would collapse, I WHOLLY support 100% cutting ties with that backward dump. |
