As far as I know... the "Silvia" emblem part should be applied via an adhesive backing. It should be made out of a plastic material that does flex/bend a little bit. The USDM version is applied and made out of the same material except it's "240SX".

Yes you are correct. I haven't really looked at it that closely but I just went out in the shop and you are right it does look like what your describing.
