Okay guys, I'm here for some help. Recently I've been getting random blue screen crashes with varying reasons and overall poor performance. Long story short I've had enough and I'm ready to do a major overhaul.

I'm looking to go with a new processor, motherboard, and ram since a couple of my crashes have been memory related and I've already updated all of my drivers and my hard drive and SSD are both less than a year old so I'm fairly confident they're not at fault.

I have about $600 to throw at this any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it's memory related why not just eBay some more ram?

It has 16G in it, so I don't know if it's a compatibility issue or what but the CPU and the motherboard are also going on 6 years old. Overall it's just about time to change the hardware and I want to make the best investment possible.

I would stick to amazon for buying this stuff though, their customer service CANNOT be beat. Newegg made me pull teeth to get a $5 part that was missing from my case, shipped to me for free.


Like I said $600 is plenty of money to spruce up your system. If you already have a decent PSU then you wont need a new one.

Are you looking at the ram usage while using the system? It crashing in games or web browsing or both? What is your page file usage? When was the last clean install of windows?

That said, if you had a 3xxx or 4xxx series chip I would say fix your ram. But, the i5-2320 is dated. Most only have SATA2 so you aren't getting the most out of your SSD.

I would make a usb stick with http://www.ultimatebootcd.com on it and run memtest over night to check the ram to make sure.

It is a pretty good processor. I saw some benches, for gaming on the cheap it cannot be beat. On some of the older stuff. It can hit 30+fps on medium and sometimes high details.

I haven't been an AMD guy for over 15 years, is that a good chip? I'd rather hear feedback from one of you guys, than google my life away after procrastinating for 5 hours today.

It has the potential to be. The bios and drivers are still a little shaky IMHO. For the same price you can get an R3 and a 1030.

Unless you HAVE to get something I would wait a month for things to get sorted out. Sort of like the initial Ryzen launch.

I would love to see it in a laptop and also the Intel/Radeon chip to come out.
