S15 Spec R turbo vs Isis t25/t28
 

I have the chance to wait a week and get the S15 turbo or I could get the Isis turbo now I just want my car finished asap but i'm not sure which to go with is there a really huge difference between the two?

I've heard great reviews on the isis but if the Spec r will spool up thaaat'd worth it to me. Also will they produce the same power or is one gonna make a big difference?

Anyone care to elaborate? Also it's going on a ka24de.

Also with the S15 turbo if I'm using s13 Sr20det inlet and outlet pipes will I need clocking adapters?

If you only have to wait a week, get the S15 turbo. Proven reliability.


The clocking adapters are only meant for installing an s14/s15 turbo on an s13, so that you don't have to modify any of your piping. Since you are going on a KA, you have to have piping made anyways so it shouldn't be necessary to get clocking plates.

The Isis will handle more power than the s15 turbo. The Isis turbo is a remake of the GT2871R. The S15 turbo will last longer (obviously Garett turbos and tried and true) but people have a lot of good experiences with the ISIS as well. I have this turbo on my car now but I'm about to go with a bigger turbo to get myself in the 450 HP range. Made 300 off the Isis with a rom tune

As a previous owner of an ISIS t25/28 turbo, I would go with the S15. Not because of any issues or problems I had, but because nothing will come close to garrett/oem reliability and quality. And a week to wait is no time at all, spend that time cleaning or organizing or working on another part of the car.

Lol I say s15...had a few on different cars and zero issues

theres a reason cheap turbos are cheap turbos... theyre cheap!

S15 T28 or just dont bother. Ive had mine for 5 years (daily driven), zero issues!

The term "Hoonigan" has become pretty cringey sounds like something Haggard garage would say lol. Yeah little ancy to get my car finished but im probably going with the s15 turbo now. Also I wasn't talking about the rs3871 as previously mentioned I was talking about their t25/t28 listed on enjuku.

Will the s15 turbo spool a little sooner with the ball bearings?

T28 is tiny... turbo spool isnt an issue. im at 12psi by 3600rpms in first and second on a stock ECU/MAF/injectors (12psi is stock boost btw, get yourself an HKS adjustable wastegate actuator)

and again, a cheap turbo is a cheap turbo is a cheap turbo.

Is that on a Ka? I would have thought it would spool up sooner but I guess stock ecu does make a little difference.

on a KA i have no idea... i cant stand those motors.

though you may spool slightly earlier due to displacement (and it will be marginal, MAYBE 100-200 rpms earlier). but again, its a small turbo, theyre meant to spool quickly. you dont start getting into noticeable turbo lag until you start messing around with T3 and higher.

That's what I'm looking for is to make around 280-300 one day with the least amount of spool time possible.
