How do i reset a s14 "fuel float"??
 

Hey first off sorry if this is "millionth" post of how to reset a s14 fuel float or whatever ya call it.... but anyways the main prob is that my stock fuel gauge reads a little inaccurate and researched that resetting the float would fix this common issue... sooooooo if anybody can point me in the right direction in how to do so would be some weight off my shoulders THANKS in advance :bow:

yeah your gonna have to go into your gas tank through the fuel pump assembly in your trunk... when you get to it there are 4 10mm screws remove them pop off the cover and move it aside... then remove the gas cap to let pressure out... with that cover removed you'll see 2 plugs(best to remove fuel pump fuse first) unplug those and remove the 3 fuel lines(gas might still come out of those lines so be ready to clean up the spilled gas and plug the lines with something)... then you'll see a black ring, take that ring off(use a flathead screw driver and hammer to tap it loose its threaded on) you should be able to unscrew by hand once its broken loose... with the ring removed pull off the white cap gently and put it to the side... with a flashlight you should be able to see the float and the bracket for the fuel pump(facing the trunk) inside you should see the clip on the right take your float and slide it back onto the clip and your done... i did that and used galvanized steel wire to lock it in place pain in the ass to do that put worth it:smash: cause now your float will never come off;).... galvanized steel wire is resistant to gas so you'll be ok!... and check the wiring in there too just in case i check EVERYTHING i had a small tear on one of the fuel lines and had to replace that ishhh it a pain in the ass too lol good luck brotha

My fuel gauge stays low even after I fill up for the first 30 miles.

Then it goes up and down all over the place throughout the life of the tank.

I gave up on it and use the tripometer exclusively now.

sounds like the float sender unit might just be going out... to be honest i think nissan got lazy designing the float/bracket:nono::nono: like that when i dove into mine i was like what the fuck is this shitty design LOL

Galvanized steel wire you say? Might I ask the method of fixing the float to the clip? It just slides on so how did you fasten it? Thanks.

Yeah the float slides back on and "locks" in place but the design sucks doesnt lock as it should cause when i put mine on i wiggled it a bit and popped off again so you can imagine sliding in your car and having gas sloshing around would prob make the float come loose again so i used the steel wire and wrapped it around the opening of that clip/bracket and float and used it as a wire tie, looping the wire around the float was a pain lol and i just twisted the 2 ends to make a tight and sung fix almost gave up on doing that idea lol just take your time if you decide to it.

Hey, man I got the same problem with my Zenki, my fuel gas gauge no longer works, it's hard for me to tell how much gas do i have, I checked the fuse, still fine, could it be the float itself? anyway could you at least post a picture on where to locate the float inside the fuel tank, because i have no idea how does the float looks like.. :faint:

I would think you'd be better off with stainless, hopefully that galvanized doesn't end up rusting through on ya

That could be either a failing sending unit, or it might be that your float is partially filled with fuel. That would screw with the buoyancy, causing the float to surface slowly and submerge at random times.

Can anybody post a picture on how does the float looks like from s14's?

Quick question,is gas supposed to go inside the floater? I would assume it would so the ball can go up and down,correct?

I have no Idea on which ball from the floater are you talking about?

Isn't there a ball inside the floater,i took mine out and there's a ball inside

Did you happen to have the same problem as mine, like my gas gauge wont work? And I haven't try taking out my floater yet, are you able to show me how to take it out from my s14? and do you think this will solve the problem?

I took my floater out, which is easy to do, its like removing the fuel pump, yes, the gauge was off for example, it said I had half a tank when I was almost empty, or vice Versa, when I take it out and move the ball around it resets to what I actually have, it doesn't come out of the bracket like all the others, but then a few days later, the gauge is inaccurate again

So most likely its just the ball from the inside of the floater that's causing the problem? I believe my floater was just hanging when i took out my sending unit. and I'm just afraid to take it out do to the wirings, does your gas gauge works fine now?

It works but then it gets inaccurate after a few days
