Who REALLY is still on 56k?
 

With the price of cable & DSL internet going way down, who here is still on 56k?
I see thread titles with "56k go away", etc. but does anyone still rock dial up?!

Let's see..

not everyone can get high speed internet, a lot of my friends live in places where they have no choice, its dial-up or no internet at all

i have charter high speed though at home (too bad my computer is so sick its still slower than dialup)

i also have charter, and that shit is pretty fast...and it better be cuz i pay $60 a month for it :sadwavey:

I suffered with dialup until 2004-05.

i hate to say it but honestly i cant afford it. sucks that i cant watch youtube stuff, high rate websites, borrow *ahem ahem* music, yea all that stuff. its a shame, damn shame. oh well i do all my high speed stuff on school campus computers.

BUT! it comes at a compromise. HONESTLY I LIKE 56K, if i have access to braodband that would take up my whole days, i would slave over computers and the vast world of the internet. I'd probably be a cyber geek. im glad that 56k limits my usage. A+ :)

I'm a tech at worst buy... And I actually get a good number of customers trying to get me to install AOL dial up on their windows vista machine. It blows my mind every time that I have to look for a phone line (everything is VOIP in the store) just to test out their damn computer and get it to work.

FYI everone still on 56k is getting neg repped by me.

ive got neighbors in my aparment complex that have either dsl or cable on a wireless network, so thats what i'm using for the moment, but i havent had 56gay since cable modems came out

Honestly, you have to be super patient to be using 56k, anyone that can sit there, and wait for a single page to load will got +1 repped. lol

in all actuality 56k isn't as slow as it was when we all had it, because not many have it now so it isn't as slow.

56k at the shop..But with a new computer its not that horrible :)

well i had to alternate between 56k and cable for a year, then i noticed that i was on the computer too much when i switched to cable. now in my new house i decided that cable is a lil bit too much for my budget and decided to get DSL. DSL in my location is sluggish and it felt like 56k sometimes therefore i voted 56k hahaha.

Also true. My shit starts up at full speed every time, compared to two years ago, when it'd start at like half-speed. lol
It still sucks regardless.

I had "56k" (actually 28.8k due to the shitty phone line in our area) until 5 years ago. Now I have DSL.

If you guys are on 56k because of money get rid of your cable TV bill, and use the extra cash. I would rather have high speed internet then useless cable TV. Plus you can watch anything you want on your computer. Think of your computer as both a TV and a computer. That is what it is, most haven't realized it, but that is what we are going to, and a lot of computer users are already there.

FiOS for me. I can't wait for the threads with full HD video saying "DSL/Cable Die".

Now days it's more the "I don't want to wait 5mins for all the photos to load on the page and to scroll through them. I'm going to look at a different thread."

I'm actually running verizon FIOS as well, its performance is amazing and the prices aren't that expensive at all. Its only in certain areas of the US right now though.

I remember back then when we used 56k, but it was split between 3 computers...19k anyone? LOL
